She is going through her 2nd round of chemo and has been having a lot of problems. Anyway, her birthday is tomorrow, and I honestly have no idea what to get her. What do you get for someone who is in the hospital? I have already sent her flowers. She doesn't feel like reading or really doing much of anything. Any suggestions?

Make bigger pictures of her FAMILY and PETS and make a nice collage and give them to her. Then she can at least see her family when she is feeling bad. Also maybe a little radio (electric) so she could listen to some music.. You don`t have to try to watch it (keep your eyes open) . Chemo makes you sooooo tired.. Please don`t invite a bunch of her friends and try to have a party for her. She doesn`t feel good.. Party in a few weeks after she comes home.. She is being poisoned (chemo is a poison) and is truly VERY VERY sick.. I promise you she doesn`t want folks to see her right now, Nor does she feel like ENTERTAINING..

We will be praying for you and your family..
God bless & hugs from Texas..{:-)

Ask her doctor or nurse if she has any dietary restrictions. If not, bring her some of her favorite foods, either homemade or from her favorite restaurant; don't forget the birthday cake. Bring her a Reader's Digest magazine, a comfortable pair of slippers. Maybe she likes crossword puzzles? A deck of cards so she can play Solitaire when she's alone and card games with visitors. Does she like to crochet or knit? A little stereo with some books on tapes or old-fashioned radio shows compilation tapes, tapes of her favorite music.
Just a few ideas. Good luck!

Sincerly if u can ask grandma what she wants that she does not have. Also realize that to her your presence there is the best gift in the world. Even if u can't celebrate the right way, u can always make it up to her when she comes out. Surprise her, get her some balloons and a small cake for now. Even if it's a twinkie with a candle she'll love it. Tell her happy birthday for me and give her a big hug and a kiss. God bless u.

Perhaps you could get her some talking books from your library or a selection of music she likes.Neither would require your grandmother to do anything but listen. Your grandmother wil appreciate you just being there.Even if she doesn't feel like talking much your presence their will give her a boost..Do you think she would like a scrapbook of her family to look at when they can't be there? You will be in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

Get someone she hasn't talked to for a while to give her a call or go visit her. Heck, have a party righ there in the hospital. Let her know some people out there care. Much better than anything material you can buy.

Track down some of her old friends, or other family members. If they can't come, get them to call. Family and friends are the best in hard times. Try to throw a surprise.

If it were me, I would want a nice scarf or wig for my head, considering that chemo causes your hair to fall out. To me, that would be considerate and a great gift, and would also make me feel better about my condition.

Buy her a card and YOU go up ther and spend time with her.She would rather have her family than gifts.Show her that you are there for her and that you love her. Best of Wishes. Hope everything gets better.

Find your grandmother a really good audio-book. Give her a tape/CD player so that she can enjoy it when you are not there. We gave one to my 95 yr. old grandmother and she enjoys listening to all kinds of books being read. I recently found her an audio-version of the Bible and she'll receive it for her 96th birthday.
I'm praying for your grandmother's healing...
AND...I'm also praying for you...'cause...you are her helper-angel! (smile)

Bring in a photo album and spend time talking to her and remembering what the pictures were all about. Ask her to tell you stories of her past and her life. What were her dreams? Did she accomplish them. Just talk to her.
