Do you think religios books (the Bible, Koran, etc.) should be taught in public school systems so the kids can be taught the historical value not the religous value?

I just want you to know that i am not talking about teaching the religiuous value. I was talking about the history like.......who, what, where, when, why, and how.

From a purely academic view, yes I do think that students should have to opportunity to review a variety of religious literature from a variety of different religions. Education should not however be based on one specific set of religious beliefs (that is why we have churches or mosques or temples). The purpose of education should be to give students the ability to explore, analyze, appreciate and learn from the wide variety of populations that make up this world. Insisting that education be conducted from the view point of one specific religion only allows people to be manipulated by those who use religion for their own ends. Does the phrase "God is on our side" sound familiar to anyone?

I think they should. A child needs to know the historical value AND the religious value. I honestly think that that is what is wrong with most of the kids today. They have not been taught proper moral values in life and no little or nothing about God and the Bible. It's a sad thing!

History? Most of it is myth? And how do you decide which religious text you'll teach? I utterly refuse to read bible! It makes me fall asleep, and Quran is only supposed to be read in Persian or Arabic ( Idon't know which) I remember Quran is always supposed to be carried at shoulder level , not stuffed into the backpack hangingabove ones bums. Are you sure people would like to read all the books? What about Satanists, Wiccans?

That's a bit rich when they are not allowing theory of evolution to be taught.

Why not teach children that it is sun that revolves around the sun?

Keep children away from your dogmas. Give them a sound moral values, a sense of right and wrong, and the ability to think properly. That's what schools never seem to be doing. Why not send your child to a madarassa ?

I think an overview of the worlds religions should be taught in schools to head off ignorance. No body needs to accept these religions, but tolerance is in everyone's best interest.

Kids shouldn't be taught about that in a school because that's encouraging a certain religion and preventing free will.

No. These books are just theories - religious belief differs from person to person, therefore how can it be taught fairly in schools?

yes, but not in science class, ancient literature or something, but not just one of them, all different ones should be taught so people have a fair choice.

I think the kids should know what they are, but not necessarily taught them.
