Is Genesis 3:21 a foreshadowing of Jesus?

Genesis 3:21reads, "The Lord made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them." (see also Genesis 3:7) In this account, when God banished Adam and Eve from the garden he still loved them. He cared about them. He sacrificed an animal in order to cover them and help them overcome their sense of shame. He could have woven a grass skirt and gave it to them. But he did not. He sacrificed an innocent animal. This points to the sacrifiicial system where God provides the sacrifice and the sacrifice involves the shedding of blood and the sacrifice takes away shame. Jesus was the final sacrifice provided by God. His innocent, shed blood on the cross takes away our shame caused by sin. God did it because he loves us. In that sense Genesis 3:21 is a prophecy about Jesus and what he does for us. Do you agree? Why or why not?

If God had taken their lives, we would not be here, by allowing them to live, the earth is populated & Jesus was born in order to give his life as a ransom sacrifice to vindicate his Father's name and bring about the Paradise Earth that Adam could not do because of disobeying his Father.

This is what Gen. 3:21 really means:

The divine Judge showed consideration for the feeling of shame that the sinners Adam and his wife now felt at being naked. In some way not stated, he provided for them long garments of skin to replace the loin coverings of fig leaves sewed together that they had made for themselves. (Genesis 3:7) The skin garments would last longer and give them more protection against the thorns and the thistles and other hurtful things outside the garden of Eden. Because of having a bad conscience after sinning, they had tried to hide from God’s vision among the trees of the garden of Eden. (Genesis 3:8) Now, after being sentenced, they experienced some form of divine pressure in being driven out of the garden by God. They were driven eastward, and shortly they found themselves outside the garden, forever banned from it. They would no longer be working to enlarge that garden and spread its Paradise conditions to the ends of the earth. From now on, they would eat bread made from the vegetation of the field, but it would not sustain them everlastingly in human life. They were cut off from “the tree of life.” After some time—how long?—they must die!

I have never understood the true meaning of the sacrifice of animals.
Is God saying, I provide this for you, or are people saying thanks for providing this for us?
I am sure this is the case in the sacrifice that Jesus has provided. As God's first creation, he is capable and does qualify to save all others possible.

Fascinating question.

It made me reanalyze my thoughts on the passage. After reflecting on the text, I agree with your comparison to Jesus. It also seems that God wanted to show Adam and Eve the real consequences of their misdeed.
They were most likely horrified to see what their sinful behavior had caused.

Then too, the weather where they were about to live was not going to be perfect as it was in the garden, so without adequate protection from the elements they would have died of exposure. So, the animal skins were necessary to their continued survival.

It appears this text might have three applications.

Death as a penalty of sin.
A foreshadow of Jesus' sacrifice.
The lesson in how to prepare protective clothing to face the world.

I just read the scriptures in my Bible, and I think you're reading too deep into it. I do see the point that you are trying to make, but I think it is unreasonable. That animal had nothing to do with Jesus Christ. Yes, Heavenly Father sacrificed that animal to clothe Adam and Eve, but that was just like any other animal. On the other hand, Heavenly Father sacrificed Jesus for a more important reason. Jesus wasn't just like any other man, he was the perfect son of God. God sacrificed him for forgiveness of our sins, you can't compare Jesus to a common animal. Also, God said in the bible that we could eat animals, it didn't say anything about eating Jesus. Jesus Christ rose from the dead, no animal that I know of has ever done that. The Bible also talks about sacrificing animals as idols, does that have to do with Jesus as well? I'm not trying to brush off your point of view, I'm just saying you couldn't put two subjects together such as a common animal, and Jesus Christ. The two are incomparable.

Before Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they were totally innocent. They did not even know anything outside of Eden. They did not even know that they were naked, until they ate from the tree of knowlege. It was then that they could see that they had sinned and were naked, and ashamed of their nakedness and hid in the bushes from God. That was how God knew what they had done, by their hiding. When God asked why they were hiding,( He already knew the answer, but wanted them to confess it to HIm), they said because they were naked.

That eating of the forbidden fruit was the very first sin ever commited. So now something has to be sacrificed to God for payment and washing away of that sin and all other sins from that point on.

Now Yes you can say that was a forshadow of Jesus, becasue if it werent for Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, we would have to still to this day .sacrifice lambs every year to God ,to cover all the sins of our families. So to make it easier on us, and to show us exactly how much God loves us, He sacrificied His one and only son Jesus as the "Lamb of God" to pay for the sins of the world. And all the people have to do is accept Jesus as their savior and confess their sins to Him, and ask for His forgivenss and our sins are wiped clean, and we are purified again, until we sin again.We must make the effort to change the sinful ways that we have. We have to try.

We sin every day of our lives, so we must repent of our sins every day, for God cannot look upon sin, and our prayers cannot be heard or answered until we are purified by Jesus forgivness.
The only way to heaven is through Jesus by acceptance of Him as savior period.

I would agree that what you are describing is a foreshadowing of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, but I'm not sure that you could label it "prophetical" in that sense. It is not a statement of what is to come, but symbolic.

Sounds logical. I say interpret the Bible anyway it makes sense to you . Me it means He gave them clothes , because eve didnt have a wal-mart to go to. lol
