The first expense is the pregnancy test and it gets more expensive from there. It costs a minimum of $10,000 just for the pregnancy, delivery, and hospital time. That doesn't even touch the costs associated with the baby's room like furniture and clothes. The first month after the baby is born is pretty expensive buying all the things you find out you need. If the mother wants to feed formula that's expensive as hell, but if she nurses, that will help your wallet. Children are pretty much an expensive proposition across the board, I think the first year is the most expensive, but that's probably because during that year you're buying things especially for baby. After that the child's expenses are pretty much incorporated into your household expenses, food, clothes, that sort of thing. If you purchase smartly you probably will need to buy a bigger mattress when the child is around 2 or 3, but other than that all your furniture purchases should be done until you need desks and that sort of thing. Good Luck

Ive never found my children to be "costly". Thankfully i'm blessed that I live in a country with free medical, or maybe I would have thought twice about it!. But medical aside, I don't find kids to be costly at all. Its all about how you raise them.If you raise a kid to be given everything its wee heart desires, then it will cost alot. The trick is clever shopping, I NEVER pay full price. Sales, end of lines. I shop at the end of season sales for their next years clothing (guesstimating sizes etc). As for flashy toys and things to keep them entertained, thats for birthdays and christmas, and heck, they have grandparents that spoil them rotten. Plus if its a fine day, they play outside, exploring, digging....all things that are free.As for nursery/bedroom furniture, while its nice to be able to buy expensive and pretty things its not NECESSARY. Buy secondhand, on clearance, BORROW!. A kid does not need expensive things to be loved, it needs its parents time and energy and love!. Also the cost of toys and clothing in America is retardedly cheap compared to most other countries. example : walmart sells the leap pad learning system for $28....that same system in my country is $70 american.
Personally, I think raising a child becomes costly when YOU allow it to become costly.

From the time you become pregnant on. There will be doctor bills incurred during the pregnancy, from the birth, and from there on the expense just keeps going. I will add though, that it is all worth it. There is nothing else like having a baby, no matter how hard or how expensive it is, its a great experience.

Someone said conception. I would say that's definitely the answer. Your wife/girlfriend will need more things while she is carrying. Examples, food, clothes that will fit during her pregancy, etc etc. Also don't forget trips to the doctor, gas, parking, the visit, a snack on the way, while there, on the way back. It starts stacking up from the moment she realizes she's pregnant. Also factor in pregnancy tests, etc etc..

well, before the baby is even born, you have to buy a crib, a carseat, blankets diapers, bathing stuff, some clothes babywipes etc. then after the baby is born it just keeps going but you also have to worry about medicine, diaper rash ointment, hats shoes and so on and so forth. And it never ends. its always costly. buttrust me when i say its worth it.

If you're talking in financial terms, I don't think it's possible to answer this question. I don't even have kids and I know they cost a ton at every age. There's always something they'll need from birth to age 18 (and most likely, you won't stop paying for stuff even at that age).

The second you get a positive on the pregnancy test!
There are baby supplies, prenatal vitamins, prenatal check ups.
Then the baby arrives and there is diapers, wipes, baby needs...it isn't cheap but WORTH EVERY CENT!!!

NOTHING is more expensive than having to constantly buy diapers, wipes and formula. After kids get older and before they need tuition it ain't so bad. Infant daycare as well is astronomical.

from beginning to end really. But as they get older (teens) then their gifts they want become more costly.

About the time they learn the meaning of give me. It only stops when they walk down the isle or get their degree. Until then the old payouts never cease.
