I think kids today are better off in Catholic Schools or Private Schools. They would get more discipline there, not that I'm saying your kids need dicipline but in the Public Schools they get away with just about anything they want. My son didn't start doing well in school until he started a Private School!

I wouldn't worry about the priests, they're not all bad! A few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch. And it has been so publicised in the past few years the problem isn't what it used to be. Are there many Nuns teaching at this school? If so, the Nuns will keep the priests in line.

Eh..it's not bad. I've gone to catholic school for 10yrs already (yes very long time from Pre-K to 8th) and I'm going to a Catholic High School so yeah. Priest molesting doesn't happen as often as it seems...it's the media..what do you expect? However, I did go to one of the schools that had this problem. The kid (the first allegation) who said that, from what I heard was lying. Personally since I knew him, I'm guessing he probably did. Catholic school isn't that bad, but it could also depend on what school you want to send your child to. A catholic education isn't necessarily better, but still depends where you live. Hope this helped a little~! Good Luck~. Plus you could try it out for a year or so, and if you don't like it you can always transfer you child out.

Liet is right--go to the school(s) you are considering and check them out by talking to the administrators and some of the teachers. You might ask questions about the curriculum, classroom size, discipline policies, special services available, accreditation and student assessment scores as well as any concerns you would have about who supervises children when they are not in the classroom. You will probably want to find out if there are after-school programs available that will meet your family's needs?

There probably is no "perfect school." We have chosen to send our children to Catholic grade school --grades K-8. Because we are Catholic, we wanted our kids to be in a learning environment that re-inforced Catholic beliefs. Our children have generally always loved their school experiences, although some years have been happier than others--just like it is with public school. We have been happy with our decision--but every school and every family's situation is different. The cost of Catholic school is a factor, however, usually, if you are actively supporting your local church in some way, financial arrangements can be worked out.

I would say that the chance of a priest molesting your child is about zero. Although very few priests have engaged in such deplorable acts, the whole issue has been hyped by the media and over the internet to the point that Catholic schools, compared to public schools, are probably the safest places for a child to be these days. Most of the teachers in our Catholic School are lay people. There are not enough priests or nuns to teach in our schools these days. Good luck with your decision!

If you look at the statistics, more children are molested in public schools than by Catholic priests. Also remember that Catholic priests / nuns are not the only ones who teach at Catholic private schools.

My opinion is physically go to the private school(s) (and publik skool(z)) and talk with the teaches and see the curriculum. Then you can make an informed decision about which is better.

I left Catholic school in 1970 after attending since 1958. I'm still recovering.

Look into the school first. Talk to parents. Don't worry about the priest thing. With all the publicity, it's more apparent now. (besides, it's usually boys). Parochial school must be better than it was when I went.

Good luck.

I went to Catholic schools and sent my children to them.

With the well publicized tragedies of the past years in everyone's eyes and ears, the tremendous reforms, screening, and training, and increased sensitivity, a Catholic school would probably be one of the safest places that a child could currently go.

Unfortunately nowhere on Earth is completely safe.

With love in Christ.

If you notice most of the priest cases are from over 30 years ago, most.
