I quit cold turkey and boy was it miserable! That was 15 years ago and Ive never looked back. 2 packs a day is really a strong habit. You know there are the gums and patches and nasal sprays that contain nicotine and many people do have luck quitting with these methods. i was thinking, tho, that in your case maybe hypnosis would work.i don't know if this link is any good but it looked interesting. Good Luck and do it soon!http://www.viahypnosis.com/quitsmoking.htm

I also smoked 2 packs a day. The problem with taking something to relieve the suffering of withdrawal is that it makes it easier to start smoking again.
I quit at least 6 or 7 times before I quit for good. The thing you have to do is get through the first week, then it'll get easier.
Look at the co-habits you have. I always had to have a smoke with my coffee, a smoke with my beer, etc... so I quit coffee (switched to tea) and beer for a month or two till the cravings for a smoke had dulled a little.
When you quit "Cold Turkey" allow yourself to experience the full extent of how $h!tty cigarettes have made your body feel, then remember that feeling. The reminder of what you had to go through to quit will be a deterent to keep you from going back.
Good luck, I'm rooting for you.

Why do you want to quit? List those reasons and let them burn into your mind. Mind over matter! That's how I did it... I made up my mind and did it. I smoked for 25 years, 1 pack a day on average unless I went drinking, then it was 2 packs(Marlboro Reds). You have to quit the alcohol as well... sorry, just a must if you really want to quit. A good friend said this to me as he was diagnosed with emphazema and breathing, through tubes stuck in his nostrils, pure oxygen... "Quit now, you never know when the last one will get you!" I quit and he remains breathing oxygen through a mask. He used to say to me he'd rather be dead then quit smoking... he now does not think so boldly as he struggles for a breath. I am over 2 years clean and yes... I quit my drinking too. I've never been happier to be free from those chains I thought brought me pleasure. The mind is your strongest tool... use it!

Stop smoking. Throw the cigs away. Tell yourself that you are killing yourself slowly with every breath you take from them. You are going to leave your family, friends, loved ones grieving.
Be positive about your outlook when you stop smoking. You'll stop coughing in a few days. In a week you'll be able to breathe deeply. Your skin, hair & clothing will stop smelling like a dumpster. Your mouth will be fresh again & not taste like an ashtray. You'll gain back good health.
Go for it. And Good Luck. You can do it.

Sorry there is no easy way to quit and yes there will be withdrawls. It is an extremely additive drug.
Change your activitys. If you drink coffee in the morning with cigs. at the kitchen table you will need to find something else to occupy your time.
It won't be easy and it may take more than one time trying to quit. Any thing you assc. with smoking you will need to give up.
Drinking and smoking. yep you will have to quit drinking to.

Nope - it's gonna suck, no way around it. You just have to use some will power and suck it up. Patch & gum help some people to decrease cravings and withdrawal, but not everyone. I tried both those and failed to quit, finally just quit cold-turkey. It won't be pleasant, but I'm glad I did it.

I quit using Levi garrett chewing tobacco. I chewed for three weeks after my last cig, and then dropped the chew. I have been smoke free for six weeks now, and have not craved once. by the way i smoked three packs a day. Worked for me , just have to find what works for you.

You're going to have symptoms; all you can do is try to ease through them. Patch, gum, etc.
Or see your doctor; they have some medications that help.
