It's for my brother in law. My husband says not to get him anything, but I think it's important to recognize a birthday.

Most of the time people pretend that they don't need or expect gifts from other people to cover up for the disappointments that they have experienced in the past. Its easier to not be bothered about not receiving a gift if you expect not to but if you do and you don't it can be really bad. I think you should get for him anyway! I'm sure he will secretly be happy. Everyone likes gifts!

If everyone listened when people said 'oh, nothing, I dont want anything', then wrapping paper and card companies would go out of business! What I do for people that say this is think of what theyre into, so fashion, or Playstation games, or house-y stuff, whatever, and buy them a gift voucher for a relevant shop. This way, Ive acknowledged their birthday, but not bought them someting they wont use. Hope this helps!

Recognising a birthday doesn't mean spending money! It really is about showing that you care ...

It depends how much you like him. It is ok to flirt a little with your brother-in-law. You might do something to shock him (just a little - and acceptably between you). Whateva!!

Make his birthday fun and just a little naughty (but not so as he gets the wrong message, of course).

Just send him or give him a nice birthday card. I can totally relate to your BIL....speaking as one who's like your BIL, there's nothing I need in a material way, and perhaps he feels the same.
I can't even count the number of times I've had to go traipsing back to stores to return gifts that were useless to me. So, save your BIL the gas and the wasted time.

Yes, you should get him a birthday gift. There are these things called Birthday Cards. You can write him a nice birthday message and hence recognize his birthday. Best of all, they're cheap so they won't burn a hole in your pocket (unless you get him one that sings Happy Birthday to him).
You should find them in supermarkets, gas stations, and specialist greetings cards shops in your local mall!
Best of luck!

Yes course you do, my nana use to say dont get her nothing coz she has everything but we still got her a little something. It just shows you care i suppose even if its just a card. A gift always brings a smile to someones face even if they say they dont want anything.

The important thing is to honor his birthday. It can be a card or singing "Happy Birthday" to him or any simple kind gesture to tell him you and your husband care.

People who say that usually have a self esteem problem, they don't think that they are worthy of a gift. Definitely, do something for his birthday.
