Regardless what the standards tells you between these two breeds, typically they are used the same. Alot of pit owners will say they have a staff to get away from the rep of a Pit. I own two pits and i'm proud to tell everyone that I am a Pit Bull owner!

Mastiffs are one of the breeds used to make the am. pit bull terrier. They were used to get the size. The staff shire terrier was the other dog used.

Pit Bulls kill a lot more people; especially kids.
