when i was little it was curly, then extremely smooth, straight and silky- like even too silky to braid- and now it's rough, messy, has some weird waves but isn't wavy...?? whats the explanation??? is there anything i can do now to make it silkier and straighter- like it was a few years ago?

it sounds to me like you have the same kind of hair as me. i would suggest you get a CHI straightener, the one with the fuzzy red stuff on the edges, its quite expensive but works really really well and makes my hair feel really soft and it stayes straight and get a straightening shampoo, i use KMS and it works pretty well. Dont blow dry your hair, just let it dry naturally in a pony tail and then straighten it when its completely dry. good luck and i hope this helps.

That is kind of freaky! Most people have only gone through one major hair metamorphosis (as you call it). Why don't you try just straightening it or use Biosilk? Then it might stay straight. You could also wait a while and see if your hair changes again. Are you using a formula or hair dye that is freakishly changing the format of your scalp?
Ps: Try some new shampoo or conditioner.

I used to have straight hair, and then it turned dopey and wavy when I went through puberty (as though I didn't have enough problems to deal with.) Check out the book Curly Girls (or my answer about how to make hair grow longer.)
As far as making it straighter--that's probably not going to happen without some heavy-duty heat styling, and heat is bad for wavy/curly hair. But silkier is definitely possible.

Wel, first off, the change from your childhood: I do believe many people undergo such a change, persay, I was blond and staright haired as a child, now I'm a medium brunette with some waves.
As for the secondchange, I'm suspecting low hair hydration from the sun, it happens to many. Try an intense conditioner or some moisturizing hair product.

Have you tried using shampoos and conditioners to make it more silky/smoother? If not try that. Use shampoos like Herbal Essence or Garnier Fructis. For making your hair curlier maybe you could get a perm. Hope I helped you out and good luck.

hmmm how old are you ...my daughter had wavy soft hair til see was 13 and than it changed and now its naturally curly...very curly...I think the hormone thing at that age kicked in.....now its pretty very long and curly....it lays in spirals....or maybe you have to much build up on your hair causing it to feel different and not take your styling products anymore.........use a clarifying shampoo to remove any build up of products which is what everyone needs to do twice a month..if they use products in their hair...that should help and your hair will feel and see a difference when you use your styling products again ...that build up will make your hair dull and heavy all out of wack...good luck

It sounds to me that you need a really good conditioner in you hair. Then if that doesn't help have your ends trimmed.
