The only way that art music will survive is exposing people to it, and explaining what it means in a way that is easily understood. What is considered to be art music changes as well, so we must also keep that in mind. A child's education begins at home, so parents would do well to expose their children to all of the fine arts early. In elementary school, the arts are really scaled back in the name of the almighty accountability test. Students do not normally get the amount of arts education needed for basic understanding due to a variety of reasons which would be better left to another thread. The only way to ensure the survival of any of the arts is exposure, education, and experience. By the end of 5th grade, children are supposed to be capable of PRODUCING works of art literature and music. If the schools can't or won't teach them, then find a way. It is that important. Arts teachers are fighting a losing battle for time and money. Help out and show your support when you talk to your school officials and when you vote.

Art and music are not indulgences or pastimes for children of the wealthy, of course I believe they enrich our lives, but more than that it is born from the creative drive of a human heart and soul to communicate a message to the world about who they are, what their world looks or sounds like. This urge can not be thwarted whether art and music are fostered in public schools (and I am by all means for that)or not there will be those among us who are compelled by an inner force to create , to speak , to excite, to soothe, to enlighten, to communicate their message to others through artistic expression. For them it is like air,is necessary, it is urgent. It will survive and because of it's intrinsic value to our quality of life this will always be recognised by others who will be patrons.
