Because he couldn't convince anyone to be "fruitful" with him.

No actually Paul wasn't, the fraud is in pastors mis-quoting. If you read "Why Not Women" by L. Cunningham, you will see what Paul really meant. It is all in the translation/transliteration and because MEN have historically done those, guess why women get zippo.
The verse to be fruitful and multiply has a couple of meanings...one is to be a good spreader of the Word of God, the other was when the world needed to be repopulated after the flood.
I suggest you get the book, you will be amazed at what is in there about the mistranslations and that the Word really is very much EQUALITY centered!

AT the time of Pauls writing, there was a lot of persecution for being found a follower of Jesus Christ.
Paul was actually urging any men and women that if they could remain celebate, that it would be better for them both. Lets say for instance, they married and had children, then were found out to be Christians and were killed (as Paul himself had been doing before his conversion). Paul was concerned for the children or wife left alone at this time.
Paul made a specific point, to say to both men and women, that if they could not remain celebate, to please marry, so as not to burn (with lust) and therefore their mind wouldn't be concentrating on GOD anyway.
Paul did not hate women. He actually put at least two women in charge of churches during his ministry on earth. I see this written a lot and just cannot find it, that he hated women.
Paul seemed to understand the enormity of a womans call in life, to bear children, and raise them is still today the most difficult and rewarding job we will ever do.
He stated that women should not be Pastors because of this heavy work load that they already carried. But he never forbid it.
The forbidding of it, is from men not reading the whole story, the way most bible deceptions happen, not just this one.
Please read Paul's writings again, and see where he , like Jesus, used women to spread the word. If he hated them, you wouldnt see this.

Paul urged men AND women to be celibate only if they had the self control to do so. (1 Corinthians 7:8,9) Being single has advantages when you're serving God. You don't have a family to worry about providing for, so you can fully focus on serving God.
Some religions teach and practice compuslory celibacy, but it isn't supported by scripture. In fact, at 1 Timothy 4:1-3 note what it says: "However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time SOME WILL FALL AWAY FROM THE FAITH, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, BY THE HYPOCRISY OF MEN WHO SPEAK LIES, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron; FORBIDDING TO MARRY, commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be partaken of with thanksgiving by those who have faith and accurately know the truth. The reason for this is that every creation of God is fine, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified through God’s word and prayer over [it]."
So basically, Paul wasn't urging men to be celibate...he was just recommending it to those who were interested in serving God fully.

If you are married you would know the answer. And if you studied scripture it would be clear what he was talking about. But anyway, here goes.
I believe Paul was just stating the obvious, that if you wanted to serve God totally and without distraction, and to know Him more intimately, you would have to remain single. As a married man I can see how my attention is constantly being pulled back and forth from the Wife I love and God whom I love too. I hope this simplistic answer helps you.

Paul was referring to lust, not procreation.
He said that it is better for a man to remain celibate in order to devote himself fully to God with no distraction, but that if he couldn't control his lust, then he should be married.

Paul was the "anti-Christ."
Even as a book of mythology, Paul is the adversary who taught the exact opposite of what Jesus taught.
The Roman Empire made him the foundation for their brand new pagan religion. ("Christianity")

He was not, he just said not to look for a wife (if you are looking for a wife you are falling to lustful temptations; men should wait for God's timing).
