They are fighting for market share and they don't have a strong following yet. They need to keep costs low to make their cars more appealing until that changes.

They are still trying to increase market share by under-pricing the competition while at the same time developing brand image. Although I have seen their prices slowly rise over the years. I bought my Hyundai almost 4 years ago and today the same model cost thousands more than what I paid for it.
In another 4 years or so, they will slowly catch up to the competition. When, and if, there will be a great deal of 10-year old Hyundais on the road, the US market may change its thinking and look at Hyundai as comparable to Honda or Toyota. Then the price will even out.

Maybe it's because Hyundai dealerships are ruthless cut-throats . Once they reel you in with the price , the car falls apart and they know they will not be honoring the warranty .

They are newer to the (American) market, so they are fighting for market share. Also, since they are Korean-made, they do not yet have the reputation of Japanese-made vehicles. I expect the prices to come up as Korean-made vehicles demonstrate their reliability.
