Why let it bother you? He is an old man. Just ignore him.

"Overweight" is an overly used term which has lost any useful meaning.
There are certainly tables that doctors keep around which describe
height, fat density and weight. Given measurement of multiple factors
(not just height), a doctor can usually produce an "ideal weight".
I suppose if your grandfather had this medical training, or you had both
talked to someone who did and the person with this medical training
had said this, he might be right and you might be wrong.
However, even so, the only possible reason he should be saying anything
is out of concern for your health - anything else would be rude beyond
belief.
So ... if he isn't concerned about your health, then tell him he is being
rude and age does not justify rudeness.
If he is concerned about your health, then at least ponder his statement.
See your doctor, or at least search the web to determine how the medical
tables are currently determined and show him the information you collect.
Understand that most doctors look at super models and describe them
as "dangerously underweight" - would your Grandfather say that?
If he's making an aesthetic statement, tell him to shove it.

If you go to Glamour magazine's home page, they have a body mass index calculator. You enter your height and weight and they tell you what your body mass is. If it's over 30, you're overweight. The BMI was designed by health care professionals. So maybe if you show him this and explain it to him, he'll get it. Tell him how you feel. If he still doesn't get it, maybe go to a doctor and bring your grandfather. Have the doctor tell your grandfather that you're fine and explain the effects of bad self-esteem and eating disorders. If he still hassles you about your weight, you probably either need to move in with someone else or talk to a social worker about it.

My Grandmother does the same thing to me and my cousins. I live 3000 miles away, and every time I go home to visit, I'm very nervous to see my Nan, cause I know she' ll comment on my weight(which is not an issue), the irony is that she is so overweight herself. I would tell your grandfather that his comments hurt you, and that it would be nice if he would compliment you once in a while. Also, as long as you know you look great, don't worry about his comments. I know that's harder than it sounds!

I'm not sure how old he is, but older people tend to say a lot of crap. What I mean is: they are heavily opininated and feel they are right about almost everything. They tend to speak without thinking first (kind of like a child), so I feel you should do what I do and just let it go. Don't cause a fuss over it, just ignore it or ask him politely to stop.

Have your Dr tell him to stop it. Comments like that cause people to become anorexic or bullemic. Actually it's a form of verbal abuse.
