It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, for that which is essential is invisible to the eye. The Little Prince
Thanatopsis
So live that when thy summons comes to join the innumerable caravan that moves to that mysterious realm where each shall take his place in the silent halls of death, thou go not like a quarry slave, scourged to his dungeon, but sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams.
(William Cullen Bryant, Thanatopsis)
High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Killed 11 December 1941

Here are a few of my favorite Thomas Jefferson quotes.
The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.
In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
Determine never to be idle...It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.
We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate
When angry, count ten before you speak; if very angry, a hundred.
That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

A traveler returns to his native village and is warmly greeted by his
neighbor. Eager to catch up on local affairs, the returning man asks the
other what's been going on since he left.
"Well," the neighbor replies. "You remember that horse I had? A couple of months ago he broke down the pasture fence and ran away."
"That's horrible news," the traveler responds with immediate sympathy.
"Not really," the other man responds "You see, he came back a few days later
and he brought a whole herd of wild mares with him. Now I have ten horses!"
"That's wonderful news!" exclaims the traveler.
"Not so wonderful,” the neighbor replies. “You see my son was trying to
ride one of the mares. She threw him, and he broke his leg."
"That's awful news!" says the traveler.
"Not so awful," his friend goes on. "You see, the following week the
army came by here and conscripted all the young men of the village to
fight in the war. But they couldn't take my son, because he
had a broken leg."
So you see, no matter what happens, you can never be sure if it’s awful news or wonderful news. You have to just wait and see.

These are just some of the many priceless quotes that I've come across (and saved)... And please note the difference between the people who answer with nonsense just to get points, these people like to "win" these mini "popularity contests"... I just hope that I posted ones that you might write down for passing on, too-at a later date !
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."-Nietzsche
"For we are born in another's pain,
And perish in our own."-(from "Daisy")
(by Francis Thompson)
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are smal matters compared to what lies within us."-Emerson
"You must look into people as well as at them"-Chesterfield
"The great hope of society is individual character"-Channing
"To talk about oneself a great deal can also be a means of concealing oneself"-Nietzsche
"It is inhuman to bless where one is cursed."-Nietzsche
"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."-Thoreau
"There are free, impudent spirits who would like to conceal and deny that at bottom they are broken, incurable hearts."-Nietzsche
"Oh, it is only you, you dark ones, you nocturnal ones, who create warmth out of that which shines."-Nietzsche
"It is never too late to give up our prejudices. No way of thinking, or doing, however ancient, can be trusted without proof. What everybody echoes or in silence passes by as true today may turn out to be falsehood tomorrow, mere smoke of opinion, which some had trusted for a cloud that would sprinkle fertilizing rain on their fields. What old people say you cannot do you try and find that you can. Old deeds for old people and new deeds for new." Thoreau
"I desire that there may be as many different persons in the world as possible; but I would have each one be very careful to find out and pursue his own way, and not his father's or his mother's, or his neighbor's instead."Thoreau
"The finest qualities of our nature, like the bloom on fruits, can be preserved only by the most delicate handling. Yet we do not treat ourselves not one another thus tenderly." Thoreau
"...they do not know by how much truth is stronger than error, nor how much more eloquently and effectively he can combat injustice who has experienced a little in his own person."-Thoreau
