how do you feel about changing the national anthem in another language. im not american, but im not one of them either -- and i am against it. i think immigrants are considered guests here, and therefore they should be the ones to adjust and work around the culture, and not the country working around them. i don't know why a lot of people are fighting for this. the people from my country are keeping a low profile in this country, we know better not to cross any boundaries. i just wonder why other people don't think like this... it's as if they want to take the whole country and make it their own. what do you think?

I like you.....

You are correct in saying they are only guests here. I was totally freaked out a few months ago, while attending a luncheon for school district parent volunteers, they said the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish. I think that if they would have begun to sing OUR National Anthem in Spanish, I would have screamed and given them all a piece of my mind. Instead I walked out in the middle of the Pledge. I was DISGUSTED!!!! And I don't care if they know it.

America is like any child trying to develop it's own identity, and when that Identity is assaulted by another country, it feels like it has been greatly disrespected. America's anthem should be respected just as any other country's anthem is. An anthem is an expression of love and honor toward a country's heritage. America is no different. If I walked around in another country singing the country's anthem in my native tongue it will probably be greatly frowned up.

It’s just wrong on so many levels; if they want the United States anthem to reflect in any way of there old so called 3rd world county then they should go back, our traditions are over 200 years old, some new comer should have no right to change the way its was especially if they came here by breaking our laws, it’s the same as them flying there old flag, if they have so much pride then they should go live there.

I’m not a racist but I do believe if you are to come to the U.S. then you should fallow our ways especially speaking our language, I don’t know how many times I could feel the bile coming up out of my stomach when I go to a store and use my credit card and it asks English or Spanish

How long are you a guest, for the rest of your life? The world is for everyone, what is all this ballyhoo about national anthems, I would be glad to sing it in all languages. I left my homecountry 14 years ago, I have travelled extensively and sing all anthems with the same gusto and tears in my eyes as for my birth country's. All countries have greatness and heritage and things to love, I feel part of it all as a citizen of the Earth, not just a guest.

I am in total agreement with you. I do not have a problem with immigrants living in my country, but if they want to make it their own they need to learn the language. The National Anthem was written as a patriotic musical that is evoking and eulogizing the history, traditions and struggles of its people, it should be sung in the language of the country in which it was written.

The national anthem is meant to be sung in English. Also, the lyrics to the anthem in Nuestro Himno were altered, and that was the biggest insult. If I were to go to Mexico as a resident, I would sing their anthem, with it's correct words, in Spanish. It is the respectful thing to do. If I didn't know the words, I would stand respectfully and quietly.

I don't mind if the U.S. national anthem is translated or sung in a language other than English so long as the translation is accurate and the music stays the same.
