i am trying to install a artec scanner(ive done it before),but every time i attach it by usb it says "unknown device" so i do all the normal procedures like add hardware wizard and update driver, allthough ive allready installed the driver
so why will it not get recognized,it cant be that i have usb 1.0 sockets as i have run all other usb devices in them including a new freecom external hdd
is there any other ways to install this scanner, and when you buy a u.s.b 2.0 hub will it upgrade my existing slower usb,s so as to speed up my usb connection
the last time i succesfully installed it i had to unplug and plug it in about 100 times before it was recognized
any ideas?

The speed of the USB connector shouldn't be the cause of the problem since there is a perfect backwards compatibility between "USB 1.0" and "USB 2.0".

The problem is more likely to stem from the fact that Windows doesn't recognize properly your scanner. Windows is shipped with lots of preinstalled drivers for most peripherals, but some lesser spread peripherals require to download or install from the CD custom drivers.

My advice is to find the CD shipped with the scanner and install the software that must be in it. If you lost the CD, go to the manufacturer's website and go to the "download" or "support" section where you'll be able to download the latest version. Or go directly to the link below if you know the name of your scanner:

If your computer has USB 1.0 ports then that is the fastest speed you will get through them, plugging in a USB 2.0 Hub won't speed them up; you would have to install a USB 2.0 card to get faster USB ports.

When you plug in your scanner and Windows does the whole installing drivers thing, it should ask where to look for them - if you have a cd that came with your scanner now is the time to insert it and choose to look there in the (the cd may have auto-run software, just ignore it for now and use the Windows wizard). It should find the drivers on the cd and take you through the rest of the install procedure, it will tell you when it's finished. You may need to reboot, again it will tell you if you need to do this.

After that your scanner should work.

try to locate an up to date driver windows doesn't have the driver
try the site below as you don't say what model you have you may have to search further type in artec scanner driver followed by model you should get a list of sites you then have to hunt each site
