Everybody is fine, staying close-by with family, but lots of smoke and water damage to property that will take a long time to fix. I don't know them well, but would like to do something to help.

On the practical side, a gift card to somewhere like Target would be useful cuz they could get just about anything they wanted there. I think that an even better gift would be something like movie passes. Right now, luxuries might be at the bottom of their spending list, and everyone needs an escape.
Now assuming you don't have the $50 or so for those kind of options, invite them over for dinner. If you knew them a bit better, I'd say offer the use of your washing machine and dryer. If you are comfortable with this and if they have kids, you could offer to watch them. That's a bit of a stretch, though.
If you have any space for them to store stuff, even some extra room on the side of the house where they could sort out things, that might be helpful.

At times like this, it is the basics which are appreciated the most. Make a large gift basket full of things like hand and bath soap, toilet paper, laundry soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hairbrushes or combs, deodorant, dish soap, and paper towels. Many of these items can be found at a dollar store, and won't kill your budget. You could also maybe include a $10 gift certificate to a movie rental store or a gift certificate for a pizza.
You can also throw in a coloring book and crayons or an activity book if they have younger kids too. If they do have kids, you can also offer to take the kids to the park or playground, or maybe just to your house to watch a movie so mom and dad can have some kid-free time to work on the house or just to be alone to de-stress.

Maybe give them a camera so they can start replacing all of the family pictures that I'm sure they lost. Or a gift certificate to a store that sells many different types of items (clothes, electronics, food, etc) like Wal-Mart or Target so they can start rebuilding their lives in whatever category they want to start in. Or a certificate to a store like Home Depot, that would be nice too.

My parents had a housefire almost 10 years ago. My best gift to them was My time in helping them clean up the site of the fire, and helping them with the rebuild and decoration of the new house.
Sometimes the most important things don't cost anything but someone's time and energy.

I had a friend that this happened to. I gave the family a large new stainless steel Pasta Cook Pot. Years later they still use it and have expressed gratitude too many times

Pillows ... I hate it when I don't have pillows ... motel/shelter pillows suck.
