This has been answered many times.
The bible recognizes the body as a soul. The spirit is the life force that belongs to God and temporarily to you. It is the driving force that motivates you, but goes back to God when you die.

The soul is the person or the life he has enjoyed. Adam and Eve were living "souls", as are animals and more. The spirit is the force that animates the body, like electricity animates a watch or a clock. Once the spirit leaves, you die.
