According to Daddy Bush, atheists shouldn't even be citizens.

Bush: "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

i think one's got to be religious, because a truly religious person won't want to do anything dat would hurt his country. Patriotism and religion work together. If one claims to be patriotic but isn't religious, then one day we will see the unpleasant effect of not being a religious patriot, because when one is a religious patriot, things would be easier dan just being a patriotic citizen.

Not necessarily. Patriotic people are loyal to their country and their country's customs, so if religion is a very large part of your homeland, than yes, you probably have to be religious to qualify for patriotic. But say, in the UK, there's not a very big umph on religion, so I can be patriotic while being athiest.

No. But so many of the same qualities are revered in religion and patriotism that many patriots are both. Loyalty, selflessness sense of duty, putting the greater good of the group above the individual, etc.

Not the way your question suggests, but the opposite is usually the case. The Catholic church (especially in Ireland) excommunicated IRA men who considered themselves Patriots.

Not at all. You can love your country regardless of your religious beliefs. And there are some people who consider themselves religious that protest against our country.

Best wishes.

I don't think so, since country and religions are completely different things.

But I'm not patriotic, so I don't know.
