A good rull of thumb is to allow at least 3 ft between beds and dressers, night tables can be closer to the bed. When placing your furniture, think about how you will move about the room, then place your furniture in a way that allows you to be as efficient as possible. So for instance if you get up in the morning and go directly to your closet to choose the day's outfit, you might want to place the side of the bed that you sleep on closest to the closet. If you are into feng shui, there are all kinds of other considerations. For instance practitioners advice placing a bed so that you can see the doorway - and avoid being surprised by univited guests.
If sleep is a problem/issue for you, then make sure to use light blocking shades or curtains to keep out the morning sunshine - or consider one of those sound machines that play the sounds of trickling water, or ocean waves, known to help people relax and sleep.
In regard to furnture - pick the style the best fits your personal tastes - dark woods such as mahogany and walnut lend a more dramatic, sophisticated look, while pines and maples can be used if you like a more casual look. Ok take your bed and angle it out of the corner of your room. Put your dresser next to your door to your closet, place your tv on top of the dresser, get a halfsized night stand and insert in between wall and bed (you are on an angle), paint your rooom a slightly light beige color, and get a bean bag chair, they usually go anywhere. And this was pretty silly, but I had a cpl minutes to waste on this answer :))

Don't put your bed under a window. Look up BHG.com they have loads of samples that can help.
