medial patellar luxation can result in permanent deformation of he dogs femur. Cosequin is a simple, natural remedy for maintaining joint health and does not need to be purchased through a vet saving you some money. Exercise to help develop supporting muscles around the joint will also help out a lot.

It depends on the age of the dog as far as vaccines are concerned. Some states still require the Rabies vaccine every year and some states are every 3 years. Puppies should have a series of 3 puppy shots and Kennel Cough vaccine and a rabies vaccine. Puppies should then have one more yearly DHLPP vaccine, a rabies, and a kennel cough. After that the dog should go to every 3 years on the DHLPP and the state requirements on the Rabies. Dogs that board, go to the groomer, or are out a lot should have the kennel cough vaccine every year and some places require it every six months. Cosequin will not hurt the dog at all. Cosequin can be used as a protective measure, and is not a bad idea for some breeds with high activity levels. If you dont feel comfortable with your vet get a new one, but I would not base your decision on them putting her on Cosequin.

I had my chihuahua's legs done. The only reason I chose to do this is because she would run on three legs a lot of the time. I never heard her yelp or whine, but the vet told me that it would gradually get worse and she didn't look comfortable. I also got a second and third opinion before choosing to have the surgery done. Check with another vet in your area.

get a second opinion. people think that vets and doctors are all trustworthy... but you are right not to trust him. he may be just try ing to milk you for money. If he is a shady vet, you should even go somewhere else for your shots, he could be cutting corners in that area as well... not giving the proper dose or the shot at all. but for the sake of your dog, get a second opinion, there may be something to what this guy says.

Any vet giving annual vaccinations is not to be trusted. All 27 vet schools in the US went to a 3 yr protocol in 2002.

My little Chi is also in stage two of ptellar luxation. She shows no signs of pain when her knee cap slips out of place either. I am not treating it at all. I plan on having both of her knees fixed if they get to stage three.
