There should be editor opportunities in your school such as the school newspaper, yearbook, or news flyers. It would be a great opportunity to sign up in one of those areas just to get some experience in publishing, I would also take extra English classes and do the best you can.
Your school will probably start to talk about college and the best way for you to get started is to start thinking about studying journalism and English in school. I would also recommend psychology as an elective.

You should be a reader. Read newspapers, books, magazines, fiction, nonfiction, classics, everything. You also should hone your own writing skills and build your vocabulary (although if you read a lot, this will happen automatically). If your school has a newspaper or literary magazine, join it. (If it doesn't, see if you can start one!) Also, pursue as broad an education as possible. As a publisher or editor, you will need to have familiarity with a wide variety of subjects, so pay attention in history, science and even math courses. Don't put any limits on what you need to know, because in the world of publishing, you never know what you'll need to know. As you begin to look at colleges, ask about what connections they have for getting students into internships in the publishing world. And even in high school, you can begin seeking internships with any local publishers, like the local newspaper. Good luck!

Does your school have a school paper? If not, start a newsletter by getting the annual staff to sponsor, or the student council. Once out of high school, look for a campus that has a great paper and go to work. You will not make much at first, but the experience is what is needed. In Texas, Univ. of North Texas has an award winning journalism department with a great daily paper. Go to www.ntdaily.com Also go to www.cnbam.org (College Newspaper Business and advertising managers). They are a great source for nation wide help. Hope this helps.

Write for your school paper, write editorials for a local paper, and major in English or journalism in college. Most of all, get good grades now so you can get into a decent college, and while in college get an internship with a newspaper or other publishing company.

See if you can join your school's newspaper staff, and if they don't have one, make one! Also, look for some jobs interning at wherever the local newspaper office may be. Maybe there are some classes you could take on journalism at the local YMCA or community center. Good luck- that sounds like a really fun career.

Start small, go and volunteer at your local paper, write for everything you can, the school paper, travel, sports mags, write letters, write articles and just send them in. If you have talent you will be noticed eventually and be able to work for a small paper or mag, then its hard work and shaking hands to become an editor

If you have a school newspaper, join it. If you don't, start one. And stick with it. Write as much as you can. Letters to the editor, op-ed articles. Keep a diary. Get a penpal and write to him or her, good long letters about your life or interesting subjects.

You've gotteen quite a few good ideas here, but I would like to add one. Read! Read a lot.
In addition, see if there are any English classes available to you that would stress critical reading skills, and the rules of grammar.

Could try posting on the internet, not the safest as far as plagerism is concerned, but there are plenty of "fan-fiction" sites etc, or just start writing, and pass it around to friends and family, you never know where one of your pieces will show up!
