Well, I can only speak from my experience. I was a 'born again' christian because, at the time I was young, impressionable and my life was not going very well. My friend invited me to a church 'do' and I experienced the 'holy spirit' enter me there. I really only became christian for the emotional crutch I was desperately in need of at the time and the belief in a god that would forgive me for everything and give me everlasting life, gave that to me.
It was only when I began to question the fundamentals of my belief that I realised why I needed that crutch. The fact that everyone I knew that were christian were incredible hypocrites and in some cases, even liars "for their cause" as they put it, only reinforced my realisation, as did the fact that I could(and still can) experience the same 'holy spirit' enter me at my will-anyone can do it, the power of it comes from within, not externally.
So I studied. I read all I could about different religions and the sciences and eventually, I came to the conclusion that there could not be a god. Not one as how religion perceives, anyway. If there WAS a god, it was godS, for a start and the possibility of them being ET's as apposed to omnipresent deities of unimaginable, basic laws of physics, etc-defying power, was simply much more believable and credible to me. Evolution has been proven to be true also, regardless of what any religious person would say, hence the swing towards 'ID' by christians who have found this fact out. Those who cannot see that, have NOT studied the proof, believe me.
To me, there are no gods but ourselves. If there were once, they were ET's and primitive man saw them as gods, obviously.
Hope this helped.

gotta believe in something...like I believe I will have another beer.
Some need proof. Just because some say there is this 'God' does not make it so. What reporter was ther when God created to earth in 6 days and rested on the 7th? Why would the all powerful God need a rest? And why couldn't he/she? create it all in a matter of seconds? Too many things to think about. And if you question someone, they will tell you that you need to have faith.????????????????

I seem to recall somewhere in the Bible it says all men know in their hearts that God exists, some just choose to close their hearts to it. ( you know, harden the heart stuff). There is a universal struggle between good and evil. It's existed since the beginning of time. Satan (aka "evil") tries to tempt humanity away from God with materialism, obviously sexual pleasures, power (of the flesh kind of things). But, we are sensient beings in a shell, more prone to satisfying the shell, living in a biblically described "Satan's kingdom." ( Per Christ, " my kingdom is not of this earth."). Pretty basic stuff we like to ignore as we try to make our own Heaven(s) on earth. Sometimes we choose the path of hedonistic values because the other way is much harder, so some try to rationalize their way out of it by convincing themselves God isn't there. We think we are too advanced for religion sometimes, but it's all relative. He's there. Some just try not to believe, it's simpler, less guilt. Read the teachings of Christ. He knew the answer. Don't let others interpret it for you, just read it on your own. People like to distort a lot of it. Just remember, He knew everything we do today, and a whole lot more, but he had to relate to a people living 2000 yrs. ago. Remember, God did not create the troubles in the world today, men did. Why doesn't He intervene? Because that would interfere with the free will He allowed us. We have to decide on our own. He just showed us the path. As Christ said, "I am the way." Of course we had to mess up His message too, just like we seem to do everything else in the world. It's okay though. He'll be back soon, right before we annihilate ourselves as a whole in a place in the Middle East know as the Valley of Armegeddon. Ever heard of it?

Simple matter of choice, but it's not a simple matter. If there
really is a God, and you choose not to believe, then that's the
one guaranteed ticket to hell. If there is no God, you're safe,
but who really knows? and are you willing to take that chance?
Why not susbscribe (you can cancel your subscription anytime)
just to be on the safe side? If there is a God, he won't mind-
although he would prefer other reasons- your belief just for the
"fire insurance policy" reason.

Well, it is a choice. I personally think it has to do with how you were raised as well as how much education you've had. I also think that it depends on how much a person needs the comfort of religion.
Of course, scientists have been trying to do research to see if there's some biological basis for people who believe in God (or people who "have faith") versus people who don't, and they think there is.

its a question between Truth and Belief. its just a matter of time a person will realize what the truth is. its a part of human mental growth. the truth is there's really no God exists, but in the point of view of religion they believe he exists. Nobody can't survive without any beliefs, even atheist BELIEVES there is no God. the Truth doesn't care what anybody think or believes. you think and believes because it's part of your way of survival.

I believe in God because there is intellectual and scientific evidence for God (and because I have had personal experiences that confirm the existence of the Christian God).
I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).
For scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God, see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm
Cordially,
John
