So if most of you say we are an empty shell, with no purpose or after life. Why are so many people afraid to die? or what is the significance of your life?

Exactly, there is no purpose in life without an afterlife.

Not trying to assume anything about you in particular, but christians (or others who do believe in an after life) believe that people who do not are completely immoral and will do whatever they want because they don't think their actions will have any consequences.

I'm not sure what I believe, but this is my answer: the purpose of my life is to make the world a better place. People who believe in an afterlife believe their purpose in life is to do what their "god" tells them so they will go to heaven. People who don't can logically look at the world around them and base their actions on what will be best for the world as well as themselves.

Make the last step you take in this life be the first step you take into the luxury of "Heavenly Estates". Why spend eternity floating on a cloud when, for 10% of your income while here on Earth, you could reside in a Huge white marble, gold trimmed mansion with cherubim taking care of your every need? Act today, the end is near and a two year minimum payment is needed to guarantee your place in" Heavenly Estates".

I figure that if mystics can sell the lie of Heaven, I can sell realestate there too.

I love your question because I had one very similar to that that I've been mulling over for a long time, every now and then. I never put it on Yahoo Answers, but it goes like this: If you believe in after life, why is everyone so scared of dying? Or, maybe put in another way, "If you believe in God, why are you so afraid of dying?" If you truly believe in an after life, or more specifically, if you truly believe in God / Jesus Christ, then why are you afraid of dying? I've had several "near death" occasions in my life, the latest one which has cost me my right leg, and in that last one I caught myself, amidst the pain of having been run over by a train, exclaiming to the people around me to pray for me, as if I were scared to die. And then I wondered, if I really believed in God / Jesus Christ, why am I so afraid? If I really believed in Him, why aren't I confident that He will accept me, warts and all, assuming I've acknowledged that He is God and my Saviour? And then I realized that if I were really a Christian, I wouldn't be afraid of dying. I've lived through a lot of pain in my several "near death" occasions, and so pain shouldn't be an issue. And I've come near death, so the experience of death shouldn't be an issue. So what's the issue? What's that thing that ol' Franklin Deleano Roosevelt said back in the days of World War II: "The only thing you have to fear is fear itself." And look how much our medical profession promotes fear of death, as do our insurance companies when they try to get you to buy a bigger and more expensive policy. Well, I've rattled on enough about my question. Sorry. So, what's the purpose of my life? It's God's purpose, whatever He wants, if I'd just stop trying to take control and show Him how to do it. Your's is a very thoughtful question. I hope I gave it the thoughtfulness you deserve. God Bless you.

Why does the purpose of one's life change relative to a belief in an afterlife? Wouldn't you still have the same purpose?

There isn't one. We’re just like all the animals, just living organisms who happened to develop much more than any other known creature. You can create, however, a better world for the generations to come and make that your purpose in life.

There is no proof whatever that there is an after life. If You feel good with god or whatever you want to call it, then you should not speculate over what will happen after you leave your body. The real You the one no one can´t see.

I do believe in eternal life, and the purpose is to follow God and accept Jesus Christ as our saviour so we can be forgiven of sin and become free of it and be saved, when the mesiah returns, we will be awakened and risen into Gods Kingdom where there will be Love, peace, and goodness, and no more sin or death.
