The 240's are good cars. I had a 1990 240 wagon with a manual tranny, until I had an accident with it. If you get one with a manual transmission, they are a bit peppier. Mine probably had an aftermarket IPD performance cam installed, it was amazingly quick. Mine got around 27-30 mpg highway, which was most of my driving. It had great steering, was very nimble, and a good turning radius.

There is nothing wrong with the 700 and 900 series cars - I don't know what that other fellow's problem is with them. I had a 1986 740 wagon that I did not maintain well toward the end that I got around 250K out of before selling. It was a fine car, but had to be maintained.

I currently have a 1993 940 Turbo wagon. It's a good, solid car, comfortable, but heavy and only gets about 22mpg, and it uses premium fuel. With the turbocharger the 2.3L engine puts out about 168hp. Very roomy, has a third, rear facing seat.

Just realize that Volvos have to be maintained. It's important to do the scheduled service on them at the correct intervals.

It is a good idea to buy a 240 model, but the best one is the Volvo Amazon. Many of them are more than 50 years old but still on the roads. The worst one I can think of is Volvo V40 T4. I have had one, one of the fist made and without any hope to become better There was always something wrong with it - not just once twice or more time the same fault can up again.

Erratic idle should be led to by technique of many stuff. even as the motor vehicle died it ought to o.k. been because the engine became operating so poorly, in spite of the indisputable fact that it also opens an entire separate door of issues. i doesn't start up there in spite of the indisputable fact that. i'm no longer attentive to the kind, yet all engines pick 3 issues to run; spark, air and gasoline. So i'd propose checking your air clear out, spark plugs, wires, distributor assembly, gasoline injectors, and gasoline rigidity. From there, particular parts that reason undesirable idle contain emissions kit, grimy throttle body, mass ventilation sensor, throttle position sensor, idle air administration valves, and so on. Idle issues can be a wide headache. One basic ingredient you may do is start up the motor vehicle and bypass round to the tail pipe and experience the air popping out. If it truly is equipped in burst and motor vehicle may be misfiring. understanding that is wide help in diagnosing the issue. attempt feeling tail pipe air from an effective operating motorized vehicle for evaluation.

Yeah, that's a good choice...stay away from the 7 and 9 series and don't buy something with too many miles on it. No matter WHAT kind of car it is, when it has 175,000 or more on it, it is VERY tired and possibly dangerous. Under 125,000 would be nice.

any 2 series is a good car except 2.7l prv v6 or Volkswagen diesels those cars mortally sucked the "red" engine ones are excellent values especially if they were maintained. 300k-400k miles are not unheard of.. my 79 wagon is close to 400k now.
