I know a lot of people do not proof read and a lot of younger people use the symbols for words. I read something a while ago where a guy said he had been dating a girl " 4 3 weeks." At first glance, I thought he meant 43 weeks! There is a spelling check on here, I guess people do not want to use it.

My thought on the horrible grammar on this site is that most people that post on here are not familiar with the english language.

I notice quite a few misspellings. I can tolerate some grammatical errors; however you would think that some of these posters were in the 3rd grade. The unfortunate fact is that a large number of posters are high school graduates who should know better.

If I have a long answer, I usually type it out on MS Word and make grammatical changes and spell checks before I post it. I am not the best writer in the world, and realize that this forum is not an English test, but at least I try to make it readable.

I guess I am just easily annoyed by the weird phonetic spellings. How is "dat" easier to type than "that?" It makes me wonder if young people ever learned to spell in the first place. Now I sound old, but I'm not. I'm only 24 but I'm also a teacher. Why can't people care about these things? I can barely read some of the questions and I wonder if these people are morons. Wow, now I'm finished ranting...

I think that 1/2 of the people on this site are just trying to get the points and they answer fast as possible and do not bother to check spelling. The other 1/2 do not speak English.

I think it mostly happened when texting on cell phones came about... ever try to text on a phone without a keyboard?? You shorten everything as much as possible, however, when using a keyboard (such as posting to this site) it would make sense to use actual English words at least! I understand some peoples spelling and grammar are lacking but at least try! (And NOW, I'll press the spell check icon!)

It's a sign of the times. Mark my words, text messaging is going to change our language permanently. Bad spelling is the result of bad schooling and bad habits.

I've noticed it here, as well as when talking to people in IMs. When questioned, the response I get is "it's just the internet, it doesn't matter". Chaps my a$$ everytime.

Are you saying that you don't think it's cute and clever?

It takes me back to 6th grade when me and my girlfriends passed notes to each other in our own clever language, and dotted our i's with hearts. Don't you find it charming?
