Such a threat to so many people? Is it not a book of fiction? Is not the Bible a book, also of fiction?

Why should one book hold more spiritual truth than the other and why can the sheeple not decide for themselves what is true and what is not?

If Christianity were based on fundamental truths, why would we need clergy to tell us that it's true?

Does anyone else feel this would be a much more effective and interesting site, if topics could be discussed, rather than simple question and answer?

Because it introduces what some see as new ideas and challenges the old ones.

First off, the da vinci code is no threat to me. It is fiction but the bible is truth. Show me anything in the bible that is not true and I will give you $10,000 cash money today. As for needing clergy to tell us what is true or not, that is not needed in the least. Do you have a brain? That and the bible are all you need to know if something is true or not that the bible says. Do a study on Daniel 2 and then tell me it is nothing but fiction. It contains the history of the world from Daniels time to the end of the Earth and if you look at history, you will find it fits it all to a T. Now if it is all fiction, how could one man predict with such precise certainty the exact years that things would happen thousands of years into the future? That, my friend is fact, not fiction.

It wouldn't be a big deal if everyone treated it as fiction. Trouble is that people imagine it to be real. I don't know that it's a real threat to anything, but I don't really like the way it muddles history. I treat it the same way I treat Disney's Pocahontas movie...as a violation of history. I never like it when an author blurs truth with fiction. It creates a bunch of confusion among the less-adept readers.

I also don't imagine the Bible to be fiction. After all, most of the history is verifiable through other sources. But there are other reasons too.

No one needs clergy to tell them what is true and what is not. Where do you get that idea? Clergy are merely the dedicated students of the faiths. They don't get special vision.

Your question kind of contradicts itself. If you're saying that the bible should hold no more spiritual truth than the da vinci code, then the christians would have something to worry about. But, according the them, the bible is the word of god. The da vinci code is a work of fiction, written by an author who wanted to entertain people and make a lot of money (and that he did!). So, to be quite honest, I'm not sure why they can't accept that.

The reason it is a threat is because people believe it is true. It is just fiction, as you can see from the very first page when the author says this secret society exists, when in fact it does not. But people are guilable and will believe whatever they hear (unless it comes from the one reliable source about Christianity, the Bible. Ironic isn't it?)

Religious fundementalists always freak out when they feel their beliefs are threatened.

It's the same thing like when those Muslims freaked out when Salman Rushdie worte his book (Satanic Verses).

Yes, everyone with COMON SENSE knows that DaVinci Code is a work of fiction.....but religious fundamentalists aren't known for having too much comon sense!

(freakin' idiots, if you ask me! LOL!)

If George Washington really existed, why do we need teachers to tell us he was alive?

As long as you have faith in what you believe, you shouldn't be intimidated by a book.
