I have some in my cabinet. Its not a new bottle(I can't remember when I bought it), but it's not past the 'Sell By...' date.

If it can spoil, how can you tell when its gone bad?

If it's not past the 'sell by' date, it's still good, as long as it hasn't been in very high temperatures for longer than an hour or two.

Many restaurants keep ketchup out day and night without refrigeration, and the sugars and salts in the ketchup act as natural preservatives to keep it from spoiling.

Even if it's open, it's still good because it's not THAT old if the sell by date hasn't past yet.

Ketchup can spoil, but if it tastes okay then it is okay. Ketchup usually goes bad if you leave it out after having refrigerated it. But it takes time. Keep the top closed and always wipe it with a clean cloth before you stow it! Proper food tempature is the best way to prevent spoilage!

A "sell by date" is really only telling stores when to have it gone by. thats y when you buy milk always buy milk always get the milk thats on the very bottem. Thats where the put the newest stuff. Ive never had ketchup spoil so i dont know what it smells like or how you can tell.

finally a real question eh? its like 1 out of 100 that are real. I often wonder about my ketchup and other stuff. I keep mine in the fridge tho, which I think makes it last longer. But I dont know for sure.

yes it gross...it smells. Be careful at some restaurants that have the ketchup bottles they don't clean them like they should. They just fill the bottles up with old ketchup in them and they stink.

It will be more runny and taste more like vinegar. But that might not mean it is spoiled yet but it might be soon. I would get a new one just to be sure anyhow.

Sure can, especially if it's been opened. If you notice small bubbles in the bottle, chuck it.

If the bottle hasn't been opened, it should be good for quite a while.

Ketcup will spoil, but only if it has been opened. As long as it is sealed there should be no problem however if there is any discoloration visible it should be thrown away.
