Ok question is...how long do you have to wait before bringing the male into the picture. Someone years ago told me to wait until the 5th or 6th day (of the cycle) before introducing the male to the female. This will be her first time having puppies so I want to make sure it's done right.

Usually the heat cycle lasts for around 3 weeks. So bring the male in early, like before the second week. She'll only accept a male at around that time. Now if the dog does get pregnant, the pregnancy should last between 63 to 65 days. Best of luck.......

If you do not know how to properly breed dogs, then why are you attempting to put the female through the pain and torture of whelping (puppy birth) and trying to bring MORE dogs into this world who will more likely than not only end up being abused, turned out or stuck in shelters?

Have your dog spayed and save everyone the trouble, including yourself!!!

Hmmmm....

What if they dont like each other??

It is better to introduce the breeding pair prior to her getting into heat. I have seen whereas the male may reject the female and you end up with injuiries.

If all else fails, seek a professional dog breeder.

Heat is three weeks
One in one standing and one out
Try the middle week.
The female will only let the male breed with the when the time is right.
Other than that she will not let him do anything to her.

DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE!!!
For every puppy you breed and find a home for you are killing a puppy at a shelter.
Even pure breeds are dying everyday. Ask your Vet for the number to your dog's breed rescue. Call and ask how many homeless purebreeds they have right now. Many, I guarantee.
Please, PLEASE, please spay and neuter your pets. There are enough of all the breeds of dogs, we don't need anymore.
Add to the solution, not the problem, control pet overpopulation.
