no where. because man had not yet invented such as we know as drugs.

you will not find in there any mention of smoking or drinking to excess (as far as i know) either.

what you will find in the bible is the teaching that the "body is to be treated as the temple of God", therefore you should worship it and the creator who made you possible.

in my opinion: do not put anything ahead of God. when we drink to excess or do drugs or do anything that is physically bad, we defile the body as a temple.

also, as ones dependence on drugs or alcohol (or even sex and injuring oneself) increases, we place that momentary feeling above God, as we tend to then not pray, go to church, etc.

btw: i am a christian (i believe) and i drink occasionally, smoke a cigar now and then and even enjoy sex without being for procreation.

that's why i ask for forgiveness on a daily basis.

Look beyond the drugs.

Have they had a good effect on your life?

Some people steal from their families and their friends when they do drugs, The Bible says, "Thou shalt not steal"

Some people will lie about their friends to get drugs,
The Bible says, "Thou shalt not bear false witness"

Some people worry their friends and their parents sick, and sometimes end up in jail (where no one wants a loved one to be)
The Bible says, "Honor thy Father and thy Mother"
The Bible says, "Love thy neighbor"

Taking drugs is against the law. And, once you have broken one law, it's a lot easier to ignore others.

Taking drugs dulls your senses and inhibitions leading to risk taking activities sexually and in other ways. Some of those risks (like getting AIDS) can lead to life threatening consequences.

So the Bible doesn't mention drugs (except alcohol), but it does mention many of the evils that you can't control when you are on drugs.

You don't control drugs. Drugs control you. And even Christians who are not in control end up doing many of the things the Bible says are "bad". As long as there is a sngle other person in your life, there's no such thing as "I'm only hurting myself".

This is from the English Majority Text Version of the Bible.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, and unbelieving, and sinners, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and drug users (pharmakeús), and idolaters, and all who are false shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

Here's the KJV

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers (pharmakeús), and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The reason for the differenc in translations is this. The word "pharmakeús" is the word from which we get our English word pharmecy. It refers to people who use drugs as an aid to making contact with the spirit world for whatever reason. To gain a special revelation of knowledge, to cast a spell, whatever the case.

So you might be saying to yourself "Well, I don't use drugs to do anything like that. I just like to get high and feel good, so that doesn't apply to me". In once sense that would be true because a person's intentions are always important. But we have this other passage to consider that talks about alcohol, but applies to any substance that alters a persons perceptions and behavior.

Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

In other words, don't waste your time getting high and risk acting like a fool, but understand what the Lord's will is for your life and be a Spirit filled and controlled son or daughter of the living God of Heaven whom you are called to glorify with your behavior here on earth.

The bible does not say that drugs are bad, it states that we should be clean vessels for the Lord.
This can be interpreted with drugs, smoking, listening to bad music. Proverbs is a great place to start.

Some drugs are bad, some drugs can be bad. But most things in moderation won't harm your "temple". Might even relieve some stress.

Be careful, though. Prison is DEFINITELY bad....

The Bible speaks of the body as a "temple of the Holy Spirit" and we must treat it accordingly. There are other verses that speak of drug dealers as "sorcerers" and to beware of them and what they sell.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

The Greek word: φαρμακειων is translated into English as "drugstores". The Greek version of this verse:

Revelation 9:21

Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

is translated into:

ΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΨΙΣ ΙΩΑΝΝΟΥ 9:21

και ου μετενοησαν εκ των φονων αυτων ουτε εκ των φαρμακειων αυτων ουτε εκ της πορνειας αυτων ουτε εκ των κλεμματων αυτων

I researched the etymology of the English word "sorceries", and it means what you think it means... magic, witchcraft, and the like. The following etymology and definition information for the word has been copied from Merriam-Webster's online dictionary:

Etymology: Middle English sorcerie, from Middle French, from sorcier sorcerer, from (assumed) Vulgar Latin sortiarius, from Latin sort-, sors chance, lot -- more at SERIES
1 : the use of power gained from the assistance or control of evil spirits especially for divining : NECROMANCY
2 : MAGIC 2a (an extraordinary power or influence seemingly from a supernatural source)

However, it seems to me that perhaps the word "φαρμακειων" has been mis-translated. I wouldn't think that we should assume that the verse should read:

Revelation 9:21

Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their drugstores, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

I also researched the etymology of the word "pharmacy", and have copied this text from Merriam-Webster's online dictionary:

Etymology: Late Latin pharmacia administration of drugs, from Greek pharmakeia, from pharmakeuein to administer drugs, from pharmakon magic charm, poison, drug
1 : the art, practice, or profession of preparing, preserving, compounding, and dispensing medical drugs
2 a : a place where medicines are compounded or dispensed b : DRUGSTORE
3 : PHARMACOPOEIA 2 (a collection or stock of drugs)

I believe that this verse is speaking about drug addicts, plain and simple.

Wake up and smell the coffee! All drugs have side effects...why do you need it to be written in a holy book.
