The tuskeegee airman flew many types of aircraft during world war two, but the most famous air group within that air wing were the excort squadrons, beacuase they were easily identifiable to the bomber crews by the bright red that covered the tail (rudder and elevators) of the aircraft. The escort squadrons flew P-51B Mustangs during the North African Campaign, and were issued P-51D mustangs after the successfull invasion of Italy.

The 332nd Actually flew many other plane prior to the P-51. A some point they flew p-39's, p-40's and p47's

Yes they did. Their Tail Rudders were painted red. They achieved a remarkable record as bomber escorts protecting American Bombers over Europe.

But contrary to Hollywood History they didn't defeat Nazi Air Power alone.
