no worries man, that is totally normal, some kids develop their walking and talking skills sooner than others but at a year and a half he sounds like he has a great vocab, my daughter is 3 and she had a huge vocab by 18 months but my son is a little younger than yours is right on track with your son, my son just started walking and I thought he was late, he easily could of walked 3 months ago but he just didn't care to walk yet, same with your son , I'm sure he can probably say more but he is just being stubborn, remember he is still just a little guy, maybe have him spend more time with other kids , they tend to try and emulate other kids, I believe boys develop a little slower than girls do too, good luck and don't stress it

What did you expect, the Gettysburg Address?
IT sounds like he is well within the bounds of normal. Remember, although some kids are speaking quite a bit by 18 months, others are just getting started. Averages are averages; although about 50% of children reach milestones on time (more or less) about 25% are ahead of the curve and 25% are behind the curve. Also, boys tend to develop speech later than girls, again, on average.
There is a possibility, of course, of some organic problem, so take your child to the pediatrician and have his ears checked thoroughly. My 4 year old had a severe build up of fluid behind his ears and was unable to hear properly for some time (this was undiagnosed because we adopted him, and he had not been properly examined while in foster care).
Don't worry too much though. My eldest (almost 7 now, also adopted) had a vocabulary of less than 20 words at 2.5 years, and now never stops talking... ever.

This is normal too for an 18 mos. old child. You seem (based off of your other posts) that you are expecting PERFECTION from your very young child, which isn't fair to him. As for the speech, many don't speak normally to babies, infants or toddlers. Many do baby-talk and the experts say speak like a normal adult. Plus, are you expecting him to say full sentences? That isn't going to happen right now. And forget about comparing him to how you were as a child or any child for that matter. Each child is different and that should be embrased.
If you want to know a childs development, check out www.babycenter.com and/or speak to your pediatrician.
In the mean time, don't worry so much about the "small" stuff. Your son sounds like a healthy boy... just make sure he's happy too.

18 months is still a bit early, especially for boys as they develop a little slower than girls. If you are that concerned, start with a hearing test. Kids tend to mimic what they hear. Are there any other unusual behaviors? You need to provide more information. I'm wondering if your worried about a deeper problem.

Just be patient... Some children just take longer than others... I have twins that are 18 months old one says full sentences and the other just says a few words. Try buying the baby Einstein videos...

that's possible that he's getting jealous. Your son spends an excellent style of time with in simple terms you. he's used to having your undivided interest and doesnt like sharing the spotlight with daddy. do not complication, that is only a section. in simple terms attempt to comprise him in issues that you do along with your husband.. ie. cuddling on the settee as a relations. enable him do not ignore that daddy isn't there to scouse borrow away mommy ;)

My 26 month old says a few words that we understand. It's ok, he is still learning new words and he should start talking in a few months. If you think that there is a problem, talk to his doctor about it.

My neice is going to be three on Monday and she is just about at the same stage as your son on talking. Nothing to worry about, remember, Einstein couldn't speak until he was 3.
