Why did Muhammed put so much emphasis on sex even in the Muslim afterlife?

Men get 72 virgin women and homosexuals get 28 young boys. Seems pretty outrageous and not the thinking of God.

haha!! the virgins does not pertains to women, but any matter that is pure, undefiled, free from diseases, unadulterated. additionally, islam does not put so much emphasis on sex either in this world or the after life by allowing us to marry 4 wives. In fact it is not even an encouragement but a restriction to marry only 1 or up to 4 because during those times, either christians, pagans, jews or whatever,they were no limitations to take as many wives one would want to.

Good question. First off, things must be put into perspective here. There are many rewards described for inhabitants of Paradise. Many, many verses. About 2 of them describe "houris." Virgin is not the best translation. Heaven is unimaginable, so God uses the closest thing we can imagine. The true translation is more of a angelic type of beautiful woman who is pure, but she's not really a human woman, she's an angelic type of creation. They're described as light, very bright, and hard to imagine by man. So you see what I mean -- they're not young girls as you and I imagine? Its hard to fully understand it. The Western world has jumped onto this.

So, sex is not emphasized as a reward. Its mentioned as one of the many rewards. Why is there sex in heaven? Islam is a realistic religion. God recognizes what emotions he has put in man -- as any psychologist can tell you -- sex is a big part of humans. Islam simply recognizes that, tells you to contorl yourself during this life, but you will get something 'similar' in the after-life.

There is no obsession with virgins or anything. Sex sells, so the media has jumped on this topic and is blowing it out of proportion.

first of all, sex with the right person is a wonderful thing. pretty nice without the "right" person as well, but more risky with all the diseases floating around, today.

one of the greatest joys in life that a man and woman can have together, is the joy of giving completely of ones self to another for pleasure and procreation.

So let me ask you this. They say that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute but she became one of the closest followers of Jesus. Does this mean that Jesus was fund of prostitutes? I think not.
