Mine is going to be two in a week and we bought the potty attachment for the adult toilet, and he's sat on it a few times and peed a couple times.
It really is easier to train a girl, so for us starting our parenting with a boy is tricky. :) You were probably right to wait til he was older, we kind of jumped the gun a little bit.
Our daycare lady (25 years of experience) says commonly 2.5 years of age is appropriate, but if you 3 year old has shown no interest, it wasn't wrong to wait. But since he's 3 now, it's time.
Good luck to you!!!

I worked at a daycare for several years in the 2 year old class and I think girls are easier to train. Most of the boys were around 3 before they were interested in it. So your son is at a good age to start. I also hated using pull ups cause its just like a diaper and absorbs all the moisture. They have plastic covers you can put over the under ware to avoid messes and it lets the child feel with its wet to associate that will the feeling of having to go. You will have a lot of accident for the first little while but if you stick with it, it will get easier.

my son was a little past 2 when he showed the signs of being ready.. He fully trained, even at night, in about a week in a half!! Putting Cheerios in the toilet for him to aim at was what did it for him! LMAO simple, he couldn't wait until he had to pee so he could try to pee in the tiny holes.. My daughter on the other hand was the complete opposite! She started taking her diaper off before age 1, pottied on the floor all the time, she finally stopped that at about 1 1/2 years old. She's 2 1/2 now and every now and again she'll have an accident in her panties but other than that she's trained, well except at night!! LMAO.. with my kids boys are DEFINITELY easier!!

It totally depends on the chld. Both of my girls potty trained before age two. And now I have an 11 month old boy, so I am curious to see what he will do incomparison. I personally think that if he is already three, it is definitely time to start. I had really good success with the naked method. I let my girls run around naked, inside of course, and put their little potty seat in the living room. I would show them how I put their baby on the potty, then I would put them on the potty. If they peed or pooped, I would make a huge deal about it. And if they didn't I would make no issue of it. Just leave it out for them all the time, let them decide on their own to try it. And if the pee or poop on the floor, have them "help" clean it up. Have them get the supplies, or whatever, I wouldn't reccommend letting them actually clean it. But they will realize that it is gross to have it on the floor. And they will have no diaper to go in, so their only option is the potty.

The age that you should start potty training a child is between 22 - 24 months. They should be almost fully potty trained by around 2 1/2. And no, boys are harder to potty train than girls.

If you don't have a man around the house, it might be harder to train a boy. It helps to have a role model there. The main thing with potty training is the psych. The child has to do it for himself, not for you. If they get the idea they can upset you by not using the toilet, you have yourself a war, and the child will win. When he uses the toilet, praise him with the attitude that you are happy for HIM, but don't make too much of a big deal out of it. The child will learn to achieve good results simply for his own comfort and well-being. That's the key to successl.

I have heard that it is easier to potty train girls....Your son is right about at a good age to begin potty training (the average age for boys being potty trained is 3)....but definitly dont try to force the issue, if he is not ready, you will only prolong the training process. He will let you know when he is ready....not wanting to sit in a wet diaper, showing interest in the toilet or potty chair, using words for "poop" and "pee", lets you know when he has to go or when he just went, etc...you will know when he is ready...give him time, it is a hard thing to learn (and to teach) good luck!!

I have 3 girls and 1 boy...The girls were potty broke at the ages of 2 1/2 years old...My son took longer ...He is now 8 years old and I am still trying to get him to go to the bathroom at night...He is dried all day but he is a bed wetter...So, girls are much easier than boys...

You should have started at 2 so by now he would be going be to the potty on his own. Boys are easier to train than girls.

My boys started around three and they both took about a year before they were fully potty trained. It wasn't easy they know when they are ready, and they won't do it before they are. Girls are easier and learn at a much younger age usually.......
