It depends on what type of electric range you have. If it is an open coil-type range, then yes, it is safe to use a cast iron skillet. It will take longer to heat, but it will work. If you have a sealed burner/smooth top electric range, then NO! The cast iron skillet will scratch the glass on top and may even crack it. Not a good thing.
I married an electrician who all but demanded that we use all electrical appliances in our new home. We have a sealed burner cooktop -- I miss my crisp tortillas and using the cast iron skillets the most!

Yes, you can use cast iron on an electric range with open coils. The only difference in using a gas or electric range would be your preheating time. The electric range may take a few extra minutes to heat to the proper temperature.

It will work just as good but remember to season the skillet first.
The best way to clean scorched food from the skillet is to pour in about a tablespoon of cooking oil and use a non soapy steel wool pad then wipe out with a paper towel. You may have to repeat this process if you don't get it all the first time.
I hope I have been of help

except you've a skillet you got here upon at a backyard sale or inherited, "seasoning" it likely gained't do a lot. previous solid iron had an really a lot less "proper" floor that that solid at present, so the tiny cracks in it may without project suck up oils that you heated in it, which then shaped a astounding non-stick floor after cooling. you want not in any respect scrub this variety of pan, they're going to easily wipe sparkling with a warm soapy fabric. once you've an previous pan that some fool has scrubbed the seasoning off of, merely smear the outdoors of the completed pan with olive oil, and bake the pan in a warm oven for 15-20 minutes. enable it to sit back, and repeat the technique.

It's safe to use but I personally don't think it heats the pan as well as a gas stove does.
