Excited but Scared.

Focus on the fun activities and the people you enjoy being with. It's natural to be homesick but you get to do things at camp that you don't get to do at home.

Take stationary and postage so you can write to your parents about all the exciting things you are doing and a picture of something from home - but don't dwell on what you don't have while you are there.

Why focus on the downside when there are so many great things all around you? A positive attitude will make your camp experience much more enjoyable.

When I was younger and went to camp, I would bring my favorite pillow and blanket with me. It always reminded me of home. Make lots of new friends, and do not worry so much. When you think about being homesick it ruins the whole experience of camp because you are so focused on being away from your family. Remember you are not the only one that is homesick or think they will get homesick. I remember all of these things far to well. I was in 4-H and went away many times during the year. Think of all the fun time you will have.

haha the same thing happened to me when I went to a camp ( I got homesick) I didn't really have that much fun at my camp, so I think thats why I wanted to leave so bad, but if its with people you like and you are having fun..you will probably be just fine. You could bring a stuffed animal like somebody else already mentioned, and spray your mothers perfume on it to remind you of home. But don't worry just be excited and have fun while you're away! :)

Hi Lacy,
I think people typically get homesick if and when they think a lot about home while they are away.
Try to keep busy with things at camp...making friends...is a good thing to do.
Camp can be a lot of fun where you can learn a lot and experience a lot.
Just be good and be careful.
Hopefully you will have a lot of fun and interesting things to tell your parents when you get back :+)
Good luck.

hey, i get homesick easily too...i find that taking pictures of friends and family with me helps, and writing to everyone from home while i'm away is also good. most importantly, keep yourself busy and get the most out of your trip that you can. the more you do, the more fun you have, and the more fun you have, the less homesick you feel! enjoy camp!

Take a book of blank pages. every day write to your family and friends at home in the book. draw pictures and tell the story of your life at camp to take home with you when you return so all of your family can share it with you and bring you closer to them while your away.

Bring a stuffed animal from home. Who cares how old you are, stuffed animals are always hip. :)
