especially this one for some reason , people think they know about it but they have no idea, unless they have it and then all people with it have differently types of things going on that another patient may not have, we don't look sick, but if you could spend one day in one of our bodies.

They really shouldn't give advice. But it's too bad you gave yourself the fibromyalgia (like you said in one of your answers about humans giving themselves things). I woulndn't do that myself.

I've had fibromyalgia for 23 years. Everyone I know and don't know have given me advice. some people have read about it in magazines some don't have a clue. The first 10 years no one had ever even heard of fibro so I am glad people have at least heard of it and know it is a very real illness. I think most people are actually trying to help in their own way or they are trying to connect with you. Still, when someone offers me a Tylenol for my pain or tells me about a "cure" for FMS I want to scream words I normally don't say and run over them with a Mac truck!! It's like anything else in life--you can't fully understand unless you've been there. I love the word fibromyalgic!! never heard that before.

why do you trust your doctor to give you advice if he or she hasnt experienced fibromyalgia? same goes for nurses or other medical professionals who are trying to help you. maybe we havent experienced a day in your spine, but we surely do understand your pain - we have worked with patients with your condition before and seen the discomfort first hand. we have seen the tears and the wringing hands that come with not getting pain meds fast enough. we have seen the frustration of people who just cant get comfortable in their hospital bed. we have lived through other peoples experiences with fibromyalgia and i think that we (or at least i can speak for myself) understand that it is uncomfortable, painful, and horrible for you. because of other experiences we have seen or the information we have read in books, we understand. maybe we don't live it, but we empathize, and we can try to make things ther best for you when we encounter you. For some reason, people always need to be right. I have been a fibromyalgic for 7 years now, it's usually not believed until someone feels the muscles in my back and neck turn to STONE. I always say, don't pass judgement until you've walked a day in my spine.

They might be trying to help you - perhaps they have a friend or family member with this condition or happen to have read about it or studied it.

Or, they might be immature people messing with you. I've seen a lot of immaturity in Yahoo Answers.

I suggest you look through the responses and sort through who's trying to help vs. who's not.

Librarians are trained not to offer medical advice, but to supply information. So I'd suggest a site such as:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/fibromyalgia.html

As to people who DO give advice, let's hope that they are:
1. trying to be helpful;
or
2. trying somehow to connect with you.

Why does your doctor give you advice if he/she has never had the diseases they treat. You are being selfish in asking this question.

Others do suffer and feel for you that you suffer.

so why do you ask the question, yahoo questions is about everybody trying to answer to the best of their knowledge.if you want only a certain group of people to answer, then specify it. otherwise the question is in public domain and we will answer it. please read the rules my friend
