Did you watch that on the discovery channel last night?
I was wondering the same thing while I was watching it.
It was actually pretty humorous.

you cannot have an open mind and believe in god. your reasoning for these far fetched ideas are no different than your belief in god. you believe that there was some guy, who know one knows where he came from or how he was created, created everything in existence in 6 days, rested on the 7th, and looks over every single living creature on earth and knows what they'll do even before they do it. your belief is the most close minded of all bcuz you have no reason to believe in him. you don't know him, you never met him, all you did was read a book, authored by numerous unnamed people and editted by the church for your viewing pleasure countless times. i can say to you the same thing you are asking here, "why don't you just believe in the alien?" you think it sounds stupid but you are simply on the other side stating the exact same thing. religion is the ultimate in narrow minded view and you showcased it beautifully here. tell me this, did you find god yourself or were you told from an early age about him? chances are you were taught while you were young about this god fellow and how great he is. why don't you try finding him yourself, seriously, without a book. see what you can come up with.

I think that people have been so conditioned by the leftist media and the poor educational system that they only want to believe what they were taught. Since religion is based on faith, by definition, you are required to accept some things you cannot see or prove. Also, most religions are based on texts that are thousands of years old, and were written for the state of humanity at that time. So, when they see contradictions to what science tells them, they immediately discount religion.
Of course, that leaves lots of unanswered questions, like why are we here, what else is out there, etc. Since God has already been eliminated, they cling to UFOs, Atlantis, and other ideas that have not be the focus of the educational system.

I don't accept any of that as truth. Are people who believe any of that worse than people like Rev. Phelps, the gays go to hell guy who protests at military funerals? I have found it impossible for me to ignore the evidence that God doesn't exist. It astounds me that you and others can devote your lives to something that is proved constantly not to exist. I have a very open mind, and find your implication that all atheists are closed minded insulting. Is it so difficult to question your own faith and find a personal truth rather than just accepting the most readily available lifestyle? What you believe seems insane to me, so why do you consider your viewpoint more valid than others'?

I also wonder why some people are good at Maths and not good at literature...what can I say? People will believe in anything they want to; I guess it's all in the brain. However, I don't think that there can be faith without reason..thus there has to be a reason why someone believes in an Atlantis they have never seen and still not believe in a creator that is so obvious. I guess its all in the brain. Great question!!!!!!!!

I understand your frustration with people's desire not to believe in God, and to fill that void with anything else. I think that the answer is humility. We don't have it and God requires it. You can't understand your relationship to God without coming before Him broken and humbly. But on an interesting and open-minded note, we don't know how God works. Maybe there are other races of people on other planets, maybe the people of Atlantis WERE an extremely advanced culture, who knows? As long as you trust God with your salvation and desire to please him, there's no harm being curious about the details!

Most likely it's because they don't like the idea of an all powerful God who is in control, and whom they must submit to or be punished.
But a lot of them think because some scientists spout it out that it's scientific and therefore true. A lot of answers you'll get will be from die-hard evolutionists who really believe in evolution because it's scientific.
It's a rather depressing thought to think that one is a product of sexual desire and chance and that since one is a product of chance, there is no purpose for him.

I don't believe any of that other crap either, but I see no reason to believe in something which has no tangible aspects to it. There in lies God's fallacy. It is impossible to accept the Alpha and Omega cannot even show one scrap of existence, even though supposedly everywhere.

It seems like you are the one with the closed mind. You must embrace a larger view of life, and only then, will you truly understand.
