The word 'enlightenment' has more than 1 definition, but I think that you're asking how to find TRUTH, in a spiritual sense.
If I'm correct, there is only 1 way; not according to Buddha, or the Hindus, or the Kabbala.
True enlightenment will be the result of gaining accurate knowledge about the true condition, 1st of yourself, & then of everything else. This requires a certain level of maturity on your part. Can you, truthfully, acknowledge your own faults & shortcomings?
If not, work on that 1st. (1 school says to spend 2 weeks thinking about yourself in a positive way, then 2 weeks in a negative way)
But there is an easier way; 1st, recognize you own limitations.
For instance, you are mortal; you are going to die.
Can you prevent your death?
Not directly, but only indirectly, perhaps by a higher power.
What 'higher power' could prevent your death?
It depends on why you die.
Why do you die? [Here is where that accurate knowledge comes into its own.]
Only one source tells us something that agrees with our experience; the Bible says it is because we are 'sinful,' imperfect.
(This agrees with our experience, because an honest person admits that they are not always right, that they make mistakes, & that they have limitations. {A 'good' person will even admit that sometimes they are 'bad'.})
Once you have progressed to being honest with yourself, about yourself, then you need to begin to learn about the true spiritual condition of the rest of reality. It is usually fairly easy to see the mistakes others make, but sometimes we 'blind' ourselves, rather than admit that our cherished ideas, leaders, icons, etc. are not what they purport to be. After that, we will need to disabuse ourself of & disavow any mistaken concepts about the unseen or spirit world. This can be difficult, because we can't 'see' that aspect ourselves, so we need a trustworthy guide, to help us.
Here is a particularly dangerous part of of the 'journey,' either because we revert back to deceiving ourselves, or we allow some one or some thing (a spirit?) deceive us. To be deceived, we must always ignore something that we already know (& usually are past accepting).
Really, it may be best to find your guide before even recognizing your limits, since an honest, sincere person (especially a kind one) can help you to make better progress.
To find such a person, look for one who is humble, with a quiet & mild spirit, not a loud, boisterous person. The right kind will not stand out, other than by their good qualities. They will always be the ones who try to help others, usually in relatively small but personal ways. They do not seek glory for themselves, because they recognize their own limitations, so they are modest.
If you don't know anyone like that, you likely need to begin to change your lifestyle, to aid your efforts to find a guide.
I hope this helps you to 'focus' on the process. After you have decided that you REALLY want 'enlightenment,' then you can begin to toke the appropriate steps.

i do not imagine enlightenment is dropping emotions. it would propose experiencing the sentiments in a actual way. truly of fixing into self-adverse even as something undesirable occurs to you, understanding that this befell because it turned right into a freak twist of destiny. something like that. With the guilt you stated, that is an same element. you could sense guilt once you may want to not. this isn't enlightened. Feeling guilt the position you're accountable is enlightened. the position have you ever heard that to be enlightened you ought to not have any emotions? An aside, too. To me, enlightenment is a own adventure. It skill dealing with the trials you want to undergo to achieve the actuality and readability you ought to achieve. that is not something out of a e book or textual content. that is studying what you may want to study. It skill being actual to your self. no individual knows the way you receives there or what that is going to propose to you, yet you.

By living, dying, being reborn in another life for more experience, and going through the cycle over and over until you've been through everything and experienced it all. Or something like that.
