Fear of death is at the core of all religious beliefs. Every religion has it's own version of an afterlife and it's own set of rules on how to get there. I don't believe, but then again, I don't fear death. It's just part of the natural process. I don't need religion to help me get through this life or to prepare me for some made up paradise at the end of the ride.

The answer is not a black and white yes or no. Technically, having belief in an afterlife removes the uncertainty of life after death. However, in most monotheistic religions, there is not just one destination for the afterlife. Without the assurdedness that one will go to a specific realm, there can be fear about whether one has achieved high enough status to be happy in the afterlife. Also, people can fear the pain of death even though they may be firm in their belief of a paradise in the afterlife.

As weird as it sounds, I can choose to believe that there are no trees in the world. Yet, trees are very real. Never to force my beliefs onto you or anyone, I surely believe that there is an afterlife, based upon my beliefs of the Bible. There is a real heaven and a real hell. In my belief, fear of death is not dispelled just because I believe there is an afterlife. Fear of death has been dispelled due to my choice to believe in Jesus Christ as the One who has saved me from eternal darkness after I die.

It truly takes a strong belief in an afterlife to be totally fearless of death. Death is an unknown certainty that all of us must face. Consider thinking of death in this way. If there is no afterlife, then there is nothing after death and you wouldn't/shouldn't be aware of anything and couldn't care, but if there is an afterlife (I believe there is) then wow.....think of the possibilities. Good luck in your search.

It depends on who you are asking because remember that there are two places, according to Christians (myself included), where there are two places you spend your afterlife. If you believe you are going to hell, then you could fear death, or even if you are not sure you are going to heave; that's still reason to fear death. Also, if you just don't know and are confused, or even if you know you are going to heaven and just don't want to leave your family and your life. Even Chrisitans fear death because there's some doubt in everything. No one has perfect faith, if you did, you could move mountains. That's from a Christian's point of view at least.

I however, do not really fear death. To die is gain, but to live is Christ.

yes and no. It makes death not seem so scary and final but it can also cause fear because you have a judgment in the afterlife for they way you lived this life. If you didn't do so good that could cause some fear.

just because you believe in an afterlife, does not mean that you are automatically free from the fear of death.

i have been shot, hit with shrapnel and sliced open by explosions on the battlefield. i do not fear death, i but i am concerned in the manner of death.

for instance, i am selfish and want to just appear in heaven without ever suffering. in my sleep at a ripe old age of 90 or so.

just dont burn, drown or any other thing that would really "suck" even for a few seconds.

I don't think of death that way, I'm focusing on living the here and now today. I don't know what is dead or even if there's an afterlife, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. But, for me, life is so beautiful to worry about death.

No.

Knowing that I have done all the good in THIS life frees me from the fear of death.

If truth be told, I've never had a fear of death...just the method of dying. (On a scale from 1 to 10, ten being the most tolerant, I have a pain level of oh, let's say -40.) A painless death, please. ;)

Death is one of the most importants aspects of the circle of life, the other being birth. They're both the same, really.

We're born. We grow old and suffer. We die. Simple, huh?

Anyone fears death.

However, those who have come to accept it (such as a sick elderly person or someone with cancer that cannot be cured and knows it's coming) probably find more solace (sp?) if they believe in an afterlife than those who do not...

Hence a lot of "death bed" salvations (people turning to the Christian God when they're about to die in fear of the beyond).
