there's noappropriate age gap. really it depends on you. If you have kids who are a year- three years apart, they will be going through the same experiences at the same time, especially during adolescence. but if you have a larger year gap, the older could kinda become the leader and protector of younger siblings. i mean it really depends.

also college-wise... if your children are one year after the other, you'll be shelling out alot of money at the same time. can you handle that financially? it's up to you

I think two years is a good spacing. I had my children a year apart, and my body hadn't really had a chance to recover from the first pregnancy, and I wasn't really used to being a mother. I wound up being nine months pregnant and carrying a baby around.

I also think that anything more than a five to seven year age gap can be a real challenge. My kids are 8 and 9, and I just can't imagine starting all over again. I know some people do it, but it must be really hard.

You have to do what is best for you. If you have them close together it gets them out of the way and having children is all done! My son is now 3 and we are trying for the next one (might take a while!) I think this gap would be great (4 years) as I will get to spend the same quality time with the new one as I did him, when he goes to school. plus the older they are they understand more if you are busy for a minute.

I'm 43YO - I'm 3 years younger than my brother & 7 years younger than my sister - and yet I get on with my sister FAR better than my brother.

So I don't think age gaps are the determining factors for siblings - but for PARENTS, that may be a different matter.

technically, I believe that a gap of 2 years would be most ideal but it really depends on your personal circumstance. Like me for instance, my baby is still one year old but I am already 34 y.o. so my doctor recommended that I should have another baby soon since I am not getting any younger :)
