A tracheoesophageal fistula is a congenital malformation (defect) where there is an abnormal tube between the trachea (airway) and the esophagus (leading to the stomach). It usually results in respiratory distress and infections, like pneumonia. Doctors typically repair it by removing the passageway between the two, and using tissue or teflon to graft over the openings in the airway and the esophagus. If your baby is nine months, it probably isn't that severe, and is reparable. Good luck, hope this helps! :)
