No. It's nice, if you can afford it, to give guests another option on the dessert. A common recommendation from cake designers (unless they want you to spend money unneccesarily) is to make the cake for approximately 75-80% of the final count anyway. Why? Not everybody eats cake. Not everybody *likes* cake. I know that sounds strange, but it's true. There is always cake left over at EVERY single reception I have ever been to in my life. Especially if there is fruit around - people who are watching their waistlines will love that. The chocolate is less fattening than the cake, and it adds a nice twist people aren't expecting.

I've heard some awful stories about chocolate fountains. My opinion is not to do it. They are incredibly messy. I know someone who had one at her wedding and it was a disaster. They look great from afar, but that's it. The chocolate splatters, getting mess all over the table cloth, and the floor around the table. This made the floor slippery, and slightly dangerous considering high heels and moderately intoxicated guests. Also you had to be careful or chocolate would get on your clothes. Personally I would stick to a nice cake, and if you want something lush, go for chocolate covered berries (strawberries, raspberries).

I agree! You can never have to much chocolate. It is also a great alternative to those who dont like cake. Having fruits to dip into the chocolate as well can be eaten by those who dont want to completely blow their diets. Also, maybe have some pound cake to dip into the chocolate as an another alternative to the chocolate cake. That way everyone is satisfied! The chocoholics, fruit lovers and yellow cake lovers. You cant go wrong!

It seems like too much to me. But, if you serve fruit and not cake-like things with the fountain. That would work. I went to a wedding with both. The fountain was such a hit people ignored the cake. Just make sure they're different enough.

How can you have too much chocolate? If you're really concerned (and you can afford it) serve a 3rd dessert selection that's not chocolate.
Good answer girl360, I totally agree, serve some fruit too.
