It is best to have the vet look at him to make sure nothing medical is going on with him that could be very serious. He might not be able to pass it on his own and leaving could cause him to be constipated permanently. As for rubbing his backend on the floor, he could have worms or an anal sac problem which should be checked at the vets.

How long has it been since your cat saw the vet? It may be a good idea to have a vet check your cat. If he is rubbing his butt on the floor, he may have worms. Take him to the vet. Before you go however, you may have to take in a sample of your cat's feces in a baggie or something to take it into, to be checked out. The vet has machines that can examine the cats poop and tell if he suffers with worms and what kind of worms he has. The vet will give you some worm medicine to give him too.
Constipation in any animal as with people, can be a nuisance. By determining what the causes are is by going to the vet.
Ask your vet if he or she can recommend a proper stool softener for your cat.
Good luck to you and I hope your cat feels better soon!

I would bring the cat to the vet immediately. It could be that there is some kind of blockage, and that could be very serious. On the other hand, it could be simple constipation. I don't mean to scare you, but I would get it checked out.

The fact that your kitty is rubbing its bum on the floor might mean worms, or possibly a problem with its anal glands. I had a kitty with swollen anal glands and it had lots of problems having bowel movements. You definitely want to get it checked out. It can cause lots of long term problems if left untreated.

Please call your vet immediately. One of mine was having litter box trouble. It turned out that he wasn't trying to poop. he was trying to pee but he had crystals in his urine. Pretty much the same thing as kitty kidney stones.
Even if that isn't the trouble he should be checked out by the vet.
