Personally, I've had 3 cats die at the age of 16 years. That seems to be my magic number. I wish it was longer. I recently read in the paper about a cat who was 26 years old, but on a lot of medication. All of mine died of kidney failure and fairly quickly.

I hated to see them die, but I don't know that I'd want them alive at 26 and having tons of medication and feeling miserable or not feeling anything at all.

My neighbor and cousin had two cats, one named Ebony the other named Ivory. They were brother and sister. Both lived until they were 22 yrs. old. Ebony went blind and Ivory was his eyes. Ivory went deaf and Ebony was her ears. They looked after each other and lived a happy and good life. Their owners were very sad when they died. They died together from natural causes of old age.

What about you? What is the oldest cat you have ever heard of? Your person experience?

I had a cat named Kylee Marie. She was a American Shorthair cat and she was 14 when she died. She was a house cat only. She died not long after my father died. She missed him and died of a broken heart.

On the average though, indoor cats live the longest, around 15-17 yrs. the outdoors cats don't have a long life span. They come into contact with other animals and diseases and other things too.

My Aunt had a cat that lived to be 22. She was on kitty Prozac and basically just tried to hide all the time.
It's not that uncommon for a house cat to live to be between 15 and 20 years old as long as they are well taken care of. (I used to work as a vet tech and took care of some really old animals)
