I look at my caller ID, then answer differently, depending on who is calling. If I don't know who it is, I just say a businesslike "hello".

My Dad used to say"M______'s Mortuary, which body do you want?" Some people hung up!

Sometimes I answer, "Hola!" because I've found that most telemarketers aren't bilingual. If they continue with their pitch, I'll say something like, "No hable inglais," and they usually hang up on me.

Unfortunately, last week I got an automated telemarketing recording in Spanish. I thought it was my best friend playing a joke on me & I started laughing. When it hung up on me & I realized that it was a recording, I hit *69 to find out who it was.

Big mistake! Because the call originated from an auto-dial system, *69 kept trying to call the number back, but it was, of course, always busy. Then *69 kept trying to call ME back every few minutes to let me know that the line was busy & it would try again.

My phone kept ringing so much I had to turn the dang ringer off. Now I just use my land line for outgoing calls, and I only answer my cell phone (in English lol).

Well, I just say "hello", but my oldest sister used to have a funny way of answering the phone when we were kids. She's answer "Pentagon!" Anyone who knew us was used to it. But once, someone replied "Oh, sorry! I must have dialed the wrong number!" Yeah, like the number for the Pentagon is in Peoria!!!, Right! Anyway, then the phone rang again, and in a timid little voice, she said "Hello?"

When it's my house phone, it's usually pertaining to doctor's visits, bills, or the REPUBLICANS wanting money so i answer with a hello because I don't know who it is or what it pertains to since i don't always give my cell phone number out and use the home phone rarely.
On my cell phone, which has caller id and i see who's calling, i answer in a variety of not so nice ways (in joking, of course) to family and friends.

Wow, people asking WHAT? That's what amazes me.

I know where you're going with this.

I answer hello.

However, most of my friends who have children have a greeting of "X residence" or "X residence, X speaking"...so that greeting is still out there.

Usually just "hello." At work, I answer with the business name, or if teh call is transferred to me, "Smith here." Caller ID , of course, has allowed me to know who is calling, and if it is a close friend or relative, I can make some silly (or rude) comment!

I have caller ID so I know who is calling both on my home phone and cell, if I know who it is I will say Hello on holidays I will answer appropriately. if I do not know how is calling, it will go to my answering machine, and they will get a message thanking them for calling the United States Marine Corps.
