Often times a child who has been labeled ADHD will be put on medication to help them in the school setting. However, sometimes the medication can cause sleepiness or inability to show emotions for a short period. My stepbrother was diagnosed, but only when he was 16. Apparently he had been ADHD since he was a toddler and was never told or put on medicine....Once he began taking the proper meds, he did better in school, made better grades, and became less of a "trouble-maker" because he could control his energy more productively. Hope that helps!

ur sick if u wana call ur kid adhd. i was labeled that. i had an iq of 133 at 12 years old. im 26 now. I run my own business. i was only labeled adhd becouse the school didnt like me being hyper. i new more than some teachers and they were jelouse i was board to the bone. adhd is either for parents to get disability or school to make more money. its a scam on the kid.

With medication they should learn fine. Remeber, many people with ADHD have higher than average IQ and learn quickly when shown something that interests them.
Also, I've read morning excercise can help some children (40% or something like that - my mother-in-law's school has a workout room for them! no kidding! they pull somekind of weight pendulum around in circles). Excercise could make medication uneccessary.
Ask your doctor if they should take medication "holidays."
Also, note that boys are having more trouble in school these days, because they are more hyper than girls naturally. Some Education professional think the current system treats boys as if they where defective girls.
Good luck!

Well it depends on what the circumstances are. For things like school it's probably better to know but for sports there isn't really any reason the coach needs to be told after all they are burning off energy. I have a son who is ADHD and have been dealing with it for quiet a few years now so if you want to know more contact me I'd be glad to answer any questions.

my son was labled ADHD. It was a definate setback for him as far his schooling went. He hated school from the time he was put in special classes. All he wanted was to be with the REGULAR kids. therefore by the time he was in the 9th grade he dropped out. He felt different and dumb.
My son is now 26 and has 3 kids. He never went back to school, but used his natural ability to work on cars to make his living. He has been with the same shop for 8 years and is most valuable sharpest smartest mehanic in Florida, or maybe the U.S.

I lot of times people shrug things off and say " o' its because their adhd," instead of trying to address the problem. Early use of medicine can lead to drug abuse down the line. Kids can use this diagnois as an excuse for the dumb choices they make. Always get a second opinion before settling for this diagnois. Dr. are quick to use this because its an easy answer. Only use meds if you have tried everything else such as diet, routines, behavior modification, behavior charts, attention seeking activities, etc. I'm not a big supporter of doping up are youth. I have seen it used successfully for school. These kids usually looked glazed over and sleepy.
