this is kinda stupid question but mind boggling........y are the woman called Brides"maids" and "Maid" of Honor when the men are Best"man" and Grooms"men"? y do we gotta be maids?

it's not a stupid question. a lot of people wonder this. the maids are supposed to help the bride cuz the bride is already stressing and losing her mind. the maids in a way are there when something goes wrong and she needs help, like an actually maid. as of groomsmen, they don't need to help the groom as much as the bride needs help.

Maid means a girl and matron is a old woman.

maid in this sense means unmarried girl. If your married you are a matron of honor

Maid, in this situation doesn't mean cleaning person. It's more like maiden, which is a girl.

lol. i never thought about it that way! youre right. i dont know, maybe cause they think men are better than women. you know? like men had power and women were supposed to be at home cooking, cleaning, slaving---> maid. those days are long gone!

"Maid" and "Matron" are just old-time ways of saying "single woman" and "married woman".
