The Arab world was once unified and peaceful. Indeed, when the Arabs ruled from modern Iraq, through North Africa to Spain, essentially as a single country the whole region prospered and a Jewish Golden age even occurred in Spain under the Arabs, just before the Christians reconquered Spain and the Spanish Inquisition forced the Jews underground or to convert. (FYI: East of Iraq are the Persians in Iran while the Turks are to the north, both muslim)

The turbulance goes back to the decline of the Ottoman empire in the 19th century, since they had taken over the Arab world. The British and the French started to move into the region and turned certain areas into colonies. The French and British exploited the colonies badly, and gave governing powers over the colonies to local collaborators who were seen as traitors by the local populations. These colonies were later turned into kingdoms whose borders were arbitrarily and artificially drawn lines in the sand -- Winston Churchill was particularly infamous for taking a ruler, drawing lines on a map and then setting locals out with some pegs and string to mark new borders of what are now Arab states.
The imperially appointed governers/kings/dictators and boundaries were not accepted by the subjects of the new states and the notion of limits of free movement between one area of Arab land and another was seen as ludicrous.
The backlash against this grew, and people saw the old Muslim way of life as a better alternative to what the Europeans had imposed.

Enter the Islamists like Osama bin Laden.
Their agenda is to overthrow all of the artificial dictatorships and kingdoms and (hahaha) democracies, take back Israel (created by decree of British) and reunite all of Arabia to recreate the Arab golden age that once existed...
Supporters to these movements are drawn to the goal of pan-Arab unity -- overthrowing the unpopular Arab leaders while retaliating against the imperialist powers that installed and continue to support these leaders (see US in Saudi Arabia, where bin Laden is from and home to many of Islam's holiest sites).

It also didn't help that the US created an Army of these Islamists, by funding religious schools in Pakistan to brainwash young muslims, who then fought Russia in Afghanistan during the Cold war. after the war ended in 1989, members of this army went to Kashmir, Chechnya, Bosnia and even founded Al Qaeda (bin Laden again), stirring up trouble in the Arab world and beyond.

there has not been peace in the Arab nations in the past 40000 yr.s and that is because the Arabs don't trust each other and their religion is also their Government and religion is based on revenge.it is like if the United States were not United and the Baptist and Protestants are having open combat in the streets.

Anywhere you have fundamentalists, and that doesn't just include the arab states, you will have conflict. Fundamentalism basically boils down to intollerance of other peoples beliefs and way of life! It's more about power than belief and it strives to force others to your will. The Spanish inquisition is an example of how fundamentalism can go terribly wrong. It's the Bin Laden's of this world who continue to cause strife the world over because they want the world to bow down to them!

There can be no lasting peace in the Nation of Ishmael as this first child of Abraham (and Hagar) was raised up a great people to do exactly what they are doing. It would be unfair to steotypically apply this general ordination to individuals, however.
