I have 3 minpins. A male who thrives on affection, another male who thrives on eating & a female who loves to play in the backyard by heself all day until night comes and she comes inside. The 2 males constantly compete for my attention and my female seems very independent and decides when she wants to be affectionate. She was a rescue at 2 years old, one male was rescued at 6 months and the other male has been mine since 6 weeks old (he was first).

Watch them interact. You will see little things that you might miss unless you are looking. Is there one that tends to stand over the other 2? Maybe puts a paw on the head or back of the others? Who goes through the door first? Does one of them push ahead of the others to check out a new toy even if that one does not like to play with it? When playing, does one tend to roll over on their back more often? Who initiates play and when they do, do they nip at the lower jaw?
Going through the door, placing a paw on top, standing over, pushing to the front are all dominate things.
Rolling over, nipping at the lower jaw, etc are submissive things.
Just sit back and watch and you can get a pretty good idea who is dominate. Do not be surprised if it is a female. Of my 9 dogs, my alpha is one of my females - Kisses.

I believe the owner is the alpha leader, because they come to you when you feed them, your the one that tells them what to and not to do and they follow you, so your their leader.

Wait until they are hungry, put down one bowl of food. See which one eats first.

That is the alpha.

Feed the others right away!! :-))

Eventually one will become the alpha leader......you'll see. It'll take a little while......cause they'll fight.....but one will eventually become "the boss". This is normal........
